IL 2012

Unfortunately I can't make it this year. Gas prices raises and don't make it a good financial deal and business. I might be $70-$80 behind even if I would be lucky to get a 1st price.

1st place Michael Holmes 20 points
2nd Larry Keen 19 pts
3rd Don West 18
4th-7th 15 pts.
My son came in 4th place on regular points and 7th on honor points. The highlight of the tournament for me was when my son drew both games with Larry Keen in their match. I was lucky enough to not have to play my son. Honestly, I think Larry Keen and Don West played better checkers than I did.

Congrats to all the winners.. I am so proud of young Alex, he stepped right up to the plate and conducted himself as a pro.. He gave some Master players a run for their money.. Way to go my young friend.. So enjoyed the IL. Ty.. This was a fun TY. So good to see our many friends and enjoy the fellowship.. As par for the course I came in first...( IF YOU READ FROM THE BOTTOM UP) ... lol :P Got to meet a new player and his beautiful wife. May God bless them and may they get to travel to many more Ty`s.... This was his first and he does know his checkers, welcome aboard..
One last bit::: My respect to the Ellison brothers... I appreciate them very much... A few people need to adjust their judgements about those two men.. . One more thing... Was in awe that no ACF officers bothered to be there...Somewhat dissapointed in that fact.

Congratulations to Michael for winning event, congratulations to other winners and Alex Holmes for outstanding performance ! Larry Keen called me yesterday, invited me to play in Strawberry Fest in May and informed shortly about final outcome of Master Division.

I am very glad to read that this year IL State Tourney ran as usual business and I want to congratulate and thanks Ellison brothers for good service.

I am sorry I was unabble to make it this year and will try to do it at IL-101.

Congrats to Michael Holmes on a great win! Many people in online checkers have degraded him for not playing great checkers, but this is just not the case in live tournament play. Besides Alex M, arguably the most talented master, at least that I have played. We can also expect to young Alex to keep improving as long as he sticks to the game and practices daily. Drawing two games against any of those high end masters is no easy feat.

There happens to be an error in the crosstable for the masters section. In round 4 it shows Ken Christian scoring 0 points (6T0) and Bill Wethington scoring 3 points (8T3). Ken was number 8 and Bill was number 6. The points do not add up to 4. Does anyone know what the outcome of that round was so I can input it correctly? Thanks.

The points difference may be due to a forfeit of round. Some tourneys only give three in this instance and I dont know why to tell you the truth.

You are probably right since the crosstable score matches the score on the final standings sheet. Thanks.

Congratulation Michael and all. Especially like the finish for Mr. Alex Holmes. Isn't this his first time with the big boys? Very nicely done.

Michael gets motivated when he sees the whites of your eyes. I laugh when I have seen the uninformed try to rate him from his online play :)

In the fourth round Ken Christian forfeited both games. Illinois rules are 3 points when there is a double forfeit.

BTW... Illinois Checker Association is probably one the most organized and documented Checker Association we have. A lot of forms and tourney guide-line comes from copying all or parts of their forms and manuals.

Hello everyone:

I left Thursday with my family for downtown Clevelend to attend a reception by film crew of KING ME and then to Cleveland International Film Festival to view KING ME. Dr Beckwith was at reception as well as Mr. Alex. I had an extra KING ME ticket and invited Mr. Alex to attend showing .

Left theatre around midnight after a Q and A after the movie . Had two rooms booked outside of Cleveland and got home later in the day Friday.

Sorry I was not at Illinois.

Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

Sorry you couldnt make it Alan. I really wanted to go to the movie too. Thanks for sending me my lifetime membership card along with a thank you note.

To all on this post: My son has read the many complimentary notes about his level of play and he wanted to thank all of you for saying so many nice things about him. He ( I do too!) really appreciates how nice every one is to him and it has helped him with his desire to continue to play. He really likes the friendships he has made over the years. We both thank everyone for this from the bottom of our hearts.

I have had a chance to review my games and his games and I have to say he played a high level in this tourney. His downfall was the first round losing both games. His second round he played into an old 14th shot so time will fix that with some pp study.

This was and has always been a great tournament.
