Congrats to Alex M on his always dominate performance.

Congrats to Alex H for his well deserved victory in the Majors. You got a lot of work to do before you are a threat against the Masters, so don't get complacent quite yet. I look forward to playing more games with you in Kurnik.

Congrats to the minors winner. It did not seem like minors was really up to par this year and I am hoping that by next nationals ratings will be enforced a little bit more and allow for every division to be solid.

I am happy I didn't go to nationals this year. Me only being a Major level 3-move player, I would have never lived down losing to Alex Holmes, the mean Kurnik people would have made fun of me about it for the next 20 years.

I am hoping to attend nationals next year for GAYP though. Hopefully someone will make a bid for a fun vacation spot ;)

My rating jumped up 90+ points but my level is the same as one week ago. What happened ?

I think this simply means - all local long weekend state events where I play 6-8 times a year, are lowering my rating compare with high calibre events like National 2012.

Food for thoughts

In chess they classify all events by category depends on average rating of event.

You are right Alex. Playing against lower rated players at these small events does lower your rating a bit. However, it evens out a bit when you play the higher caliber players at a big event like the Nationals. It also benefits you that you play in so many events to show that you truly are a great competitor regardless of the competition. Keep coming to all these events, you inspire people to work harder to reach your level of competition.

Thanks, Joe !

Another good benefit from my participation in state events - I am working like "transform machine", to pass rating points from high rated world players to Americans ! :D :D

To Alex Holmes:

I want to congratulate you for winning the Majors Division at the 2012 A.C.F. National 3-Move Tournament. This was an incredible performance and accomplishment at your age. Bravo! I hope your checkered career lasts for many years to come, as you begin your preparation to take on the challenge of competing in the Masters Division.

I see a tiny bit of myself in you, and I do mean "tiny." I played in my first checker tournament at the age of 14. This was for the Norfolk (Virginia) city championship, sponsored by what was called the Norfolk Checker and Domino Club. This tournament attracted over 100 players. I managed to stay out of last place and won a checker book for my efforts.

Once again, congratulations for a job well done!

I second this motion, not only for next year's tournament, but for many other future tournaments as well. If I am going to travel to a checker tournament, I would like for it to coincide with a fun vacation spot, where there is plenty of night life, entertainment, and gourmet food to enjoy.

For me one week at National is not a "great entertain vacation" but hard work. After playing one week, 6 days, 10-12 hours a day - I am completely dummy. I personally would like to play in the most "boring" place where minimum things take out your attention.

We don't need to get more players in Masters Division, because this is a great privelege anyway and number of places here is limited to ones who deserved.

So ... next year I would like to play in something like Chicago or Saint Louis

Concerning my family vacation next year ... so far we always tried to visit new places. Also it will be last year for Paul who goes to college next fall. So far opinions are evenly divided among Hawai and Colorodo Mountains. What do you think is better ?

Regards,

Alex M

Little bit about checkers

White to move and win, two ways

Analyses J. Moore vs A . Moiseyev,
ACF National 2012, Rd. 7, G3

This position was "inside variation" in my game with Joe Moore from round 7. Right after the game I thought that I missed a win and Joe missed a draw. But today I find out that in fact - I didn 't miss anything and draw (which Joe missed) was always there.

So ... good thing for me - I didn't miss anything, bad thing - during the game I didn 't see even half part of all wonders arise !

Joe, I am waiting now from you here full complete analyses of this game: you have to learn how to do this and start doing this - this important for your performance and career as checker player and it is interesting and attractive for forum readers.

Also it will be a great thing if Alex Holmes join us and demonstrate something here - just interesting moments happened in game. Alex, I am expecting from you some contributions as well. You may ask dad for help and tips first time. It must be a standard routine for you - analyse games after event and never lose game the same way twice !

I also want to thanks here personally Mr. Adam Johnson from England (Warrior Max) and few other good players from Kurnink who greatly assisted me and helped to prepare for this tournament and recover from being little bit out of practice in the beginning of this year.

Hey Alex,

I intend to do a full analysis of that game and will post it in the forum. I am quite busy over the next few days so it may take up to a week for me to get the chance.

ACF Nationals MAster Division

Red to move and draw

Well known to mail players position from Gemini. Ron played here losing 16-20? and lost after 7-2, 6-9, 14x5, 26-23, 5-1, 23x14, 15-10, 14x7, 2x11 etc WW due to move.

In position on diagram red had a draw after 26-22 (or 17-21 first), 7-2, 17-21, 2x9, 22-17, 15-10, 17-22 etc Draw.

An interesting thing is that position on diagram was published in Sixth, diagram #471, page 343. SG-47 with Tony Kozensky where the same position arised from different regular opening. Nice transposition.

True. Sixth was published in 2006 but mainly written in 2004-2005, before Canning Compilations came in.
