3-1 is quite a deficit in a WCM. Goes to show that Alex has some tricks up his sleeve when he needs them. I am really excited to see what unfolds in the next rounds. Great match guys.... keep it up

No offense to Alex who is an amazing player, but I think Borg is the more gifted one of the two. Borg's crossboard is scary i think Alex knows more openings and ETC, but for sheer crossboard i don't think you can touch Borg just my opinion.Eric Strange wrote:3-1 is quite a deficit in a WCM. I would also argue that Alex has the superior endgame, and this stage of the game came up very big in their match two years ago. Borg is also very underrated in terms of his pp knowledge IMO. I know for a fact he played a game or 2 in the last WTM that came right out of Basic Checkers. You can't beat a player like Alex by just sheer crossboard, you need to have a great knowledge of all facets of the game, including pp. Borg may have advantage in terms of endurance as Alex seemed to wear down at the end of the last WTM and he obviously is a bit older. I say its 50/50 right now.adamjohnson wrote:No offense to Alex who is an amazing player, but I think Borg is the more gifted one of the two. Yea obviously Borg knows a lot of stuff aswell he's studied a lot, but I still think his crossboard is amazing. I've played both players quite a bit in the past just my opinion of course, but I've said this before aswell i think Borg will take it this year, i think he was a bit unlucky last year missed a lot of wins i think he's more focused now.Chexhero wrote:I would also argue that Alex has the superior endgame, and this stage of the game came up very big in their match two years ago. I never played Borgetti but I have played Moiseyev. I think his cross-board ability is the only one that is as good as King's. Both still do not have the PP knowledge of Tinsley and Lafferty but Borgetti has to be good to win the WQT. I rooting for the American. Perhaps he is not a native but he has been here long enough to consider him a local. Go Alex!

Biggest deficit in a World Championship Match that I've read about is Willie Ryan being down 4-1 to Hellman and coming back to tie.

Yes, on this occasion a lack of knowledge was the deciding factor. I scored an identical win, move-for-move, against Cornell in a 1996 practice game. See Total Checkers A Guide & Companion Volume 1 Page 43, Game 201.

No one should be running out of time, they have plenty of time to think. Im not biased i like both players and have played both of them quite a lot, but that's life Alex should be aware of his time.

I agree with Adam on this one. Managing time properly is part of the game. Give credit to Miki who made the position difficult for Alex. Alex has no one to blame but himself for not managing time properly. 8 games left, Alex needs to find out a way to gut out another win to keep the title.
