Irish Open 2013
Today the Irish Open 2013 started in Limerick:
Here are the results of the masters:
http://www.chessarbiter.com/turnieje_wa ... 13/f_5329/
Seniors :
http://www.chessarbiter.com/turnieje_wa ... 13/f_5331/
Intermediates:
http://www.chessarbiter.com/turnieje_wa ... 13/f_5330/
I lost both games to Shane in round one. First one as I did not know any defense to 1.9-13 23-18, 2. 6-9, and the 2nd game due to very bad endgame play.
Greetinx from rainy Limerick,

The school Juniors under 14 started today, and Shane fell into a shot missing to win both Single Corner games against Colin Young.
Tomorrow he will face the challehnge of O'Driscoll.

Re: Irish Open 2013
Yesterday the IDA held its GA at the Irish Open in Limerick.
Myles Hannigan was voted in as new IDA president.
Sean Phillips announced the new website of the IDA:
http://www.irishdraughtsassociation.com/
And after a longer discussion it was decided that the IO will still be held at the traditional date, but now lasting only 3 days (7 rounds).
The juniors finished and among the spectators was former World Champion Patricia Breen who came to watch the games of her nephew Sean in the Juniors.

Ingo, Many thanks and great job.
Congratulations to Myles Hannigan on his election as the new IDA President. A positive move. Also a bit of history - the first player from Northern Ireland to be elected President of the IDA.

Pity. I played in Irish Open 2007 with 10 rounds in Master Section. I think overall in all Divisions we had more than 40 players.Ingo_Zachos wrote:And after a longer discussion it was decided that the IO will still be held at the traditional date, but now lasting only 3 days (7 rounds).

Re: Irish Open 2013
Congratulations to Shane on his victory!
Who will be declared European Champion 2013?
I noticed Danny Oliphant has 54 points without winnng a competition while Shane McCosker has 50 points and he won two big competitions (British Open and Irish Open). I wonder, if there is anything wrong in thinking that the regulations of European Cup 2013 are not fair.
In my opinion, Shane should be declared European Champion.

Re: Irish Open 2013
CUP is CUP, Danny probably attended more events ? If so, this make sense to me. In other hands, I agree with Sergio - winning major events must be awarded with more points.sergio wrote:Congratulations to Shane on his victory!

Do we have European Checkers Federation ? If so - they should take care of this.

It seems that attandance beat performance if that is true.
Shane won two big majors. The other one that did that is you, Sergio. But the QT is not counted, so Shane should be ahead.
Maybe a rule should be applied that the European Champion title may only be given to a winner of the events and among them to the best on points.
However, Danny is a dilligent player that deserves special recognition for his dedication to the game and his consistance. No other player tavelled like him in Europe to play the draughts:
Germany, Denmark, Ireland, France (WMSG) etc. and all of them more then once!

Maybe he should be declared European Cup winner (best on points) and Shane European Champion 2013 (won most majors).

Ingo
