I cant imagine the extreme disapointment ron felt or
what losing probably cost him in more than one way
having said that not showing.....

I like the fact that they gave him extra time

to the new

WORLD CHAMPION,

:king: Sergio Scarpetta, :king:

for an excellent performance in this match and in the Qualifier.

He truly deserves the crown he won.

Congratulations to the FID, for which Sergios triumph is a fine present in their 70th anniversary indeed. :blob5:

Many thanks to the Italian organizers and especially the referee Ezio Valentini.

Ingo. I don't know if you know this but its kind of funny so I thought id mention it. On many of the message boards
ive read stuff on when someone says something crazy they start the sentence by saying something like

this may be germans but.... well I thought it was ironic

Richard, thanks for the info. That clarifies things a lot. I think we're all disappointed the final games were not played out, in what was a truely exciting match. I guess Ron needs to pay more attention to detail, both on and off the board!

Another publication in Barbados media.

Yet, I don't see so far any controversy on title, all publications in Barbados press fully accept referee decision and match results.

An article also says that Ron plans to attend Scottish and USA Opens in July. Lets wish him (and organizers) good luck !

It's hard to believe Mr. King wouldn't have wanted to play to the end. With four games to go anything could have happened. Giving up your title by walking away? Would Mr. King really do that? I don't know him, of course, but he hardly strikes me as the Bobby Fischer type in that respect.

In any case, with two world champions to their credit, Italy can lay claim to checker kingship.

The previous champs--- Mr. King and Mr. Moiseyev--- have left a winning legacy that will be remembered for as long as checkers is played. And they're both still active, so ... to change the tense of the phrase above ... anything can happen!
