Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
The list above is still the state of the art, with the exception that Erika Rosso had to cancel her trip.
The favorites all won their last events in convincing style:
GM Sergio Scarpetta won the Czech Open in Prague without any Problem. So did Ron King at the Irish Open and Alex Moiseyev recentlly won two tournements without a loss.
I dont know about the Moldovian players, but the field Looks strong. Ron King may be the man to crush the players of lesser calibre, but a lot will depend on their direct encounters.
Sergio never played Alex, and Ron recently had a bad score against both Sergio and Alex, especially in 3-move.
For the Women, Nadiya is the clear favorite now, but sometimes it is easier said then done...

I don't think we have too many of such players "of lesser caliber" and even if there are couple - Ron may not have a good chance to play with them.Ingo_Zachos wrote:Ron King may be the man to crush the players of lesser calibre
I see on this list at least 10 players who can make at least a draw in single game against anyone. Everything is highly depends on luck with opening and pairing, physical and emotional form.
I am still at work today (not enough vacation days). Plan to leave later tonight.

The four games shown on ustream.com, so far. In the Kondlo - King match, the first game may have been the wrong opening.

Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
King losing to Kondlo, Alex losing a game in 3-move to Jack, Joe winning against Jim, Young Holmes crushing Chuck and Mark besting Michael. That were a lot of surprises in round one. Sergio then beat Alex Holmes by 3-1 in round two and he should be on top after day one, but still has to play big Alex, Lubabalo, King etc.
Seems like a tough event this time.

Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
Someone needs to tell whoever is in control of the camera that there must be a way of telling whose turn it is to move.......cannot see the timeclock.....
Aut Inveniam Viam Aut Faciam !!!

Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
The stream showing says Kondlo Vs. Francis....but the visage is Kondlo Vs. Moiseyev...either way, a good game...but, to the uninitiated, might be confusing.....

Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
Moiseyev playing Kondlo now (and Francis-Scarpetta on another Ustream channel). Kondlo-Francis was this morning's game.
Standings through round 5
16 Kondlo
14 Scarpetta
13 Moiseyev
12 Francis
11 King & M. Holmes (who are now playing each other)
Alex Holmes did very well early in this tournament, but lost both games this morning while playing sick (and playing fast). He looks a little better now.

Re: 2014 WQT in the United States
Hi Jay, I am controlling the cam. We will make it that the time clock can be seen for now on. Also, I apologize for the confusion as to who was playing who. We added another Ustream channel so people would have access to multiple matches. You may also have noticed that the Ustream went off during matches. Unfortunately, it only has a 180 minute time limit. I do hope that everyone has enjoyed the high quality games from some of the top in the world.
