Today I had received in mail a personal invitation from organizers. Official announcement and details are on the way, but for the time now I can confirm (can I?) that tournament will be held in Branson, MO at the end of July. I also can confirm that I will be there (of course!) to defend my title.

We have $12,000 as of today and the prize fund is growing. Hopefully, we will have at least 45 players in three categories. The new site is about a half mile up the hill from our previous tourneys. There are six restaurants and a theatre within walking distance. Can't wait to see everyone.

This is your personal invitation to participate in the 2016 ACF National 3-move Checker Tournament on July 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Branson, Missouiri. The entry fee is $20 with ACF membership.

The site of the tournament will be the Honeysuckle Inn, 3698 Shedpherd of the Hills Expressway, 65616 in the heart of Branson. The phone number is (888) 561-3945. Please make your reservation now. It is important that you do this as earlier as possible. The rate is $67 per night. There are several other motels in the area including Willow Tree Inn across the street. (877) 922-6766.
We will provide shuttle from the Springfield airport to the motel. Let us know if you need this service.
There will be a social period on Tuesday, July 26 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. You may register for the tournament then or the next morning until the first round. Play will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. The social hour will also give you an opportunity to meet the tournament directors and sponsors and also play a few friendly games. Please plan to come earlier.
The 2016 event will be extra special. Branson is a vacation paradise with over 75 shows plus Silver Dollar city, Whitewater, the Branson Scenic Railway and more. You and your friends and family can enjoy many of the attractions in addition to playing Checkers. There are many restaurants and shops within one mile of the motel. IHOP, Olive Garden, Golden Corral, Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, Taco bell and McFarlain's are fewer than five minutes walking distance. The IMAX theater is next door. The World of Checkers Museum is now in Branson.

16 players, Round Robin, 15 rounds, 3 rounds (6 games) per day, 5 days: Wednesday-Sunday. Scoring per ballot (2-1-0). I am willing to propose this for vote in Branson before tournament start. Results of individual games can be counted for HP.
Official announcement doesn't say anything about recording games and usage clocks but I assume that there shouldn't be any changes to existing requirements - usage clocks and recording games is MUST in Master Division and optional in Majors. Standard time control always used to be 1 hours for the 1st 30 moves. After then opinions divided
I also am in favor of the following deal: after passing first time control give each player 30 minutes to the rest of game. This will guarantee that round will be done in no more than 3 hours w/o any delays.

I am ok with this format that Alex laid out or Joe's format in the write up, but I prefer Alex's format of playing more rounds/players. I would prefer however, that regulations such as # of rounds, scoring, and time controls are known at least a couple months in advance of the tournament. I would personally like to know how many days the tournament will be in advance of coming so I can plan accordingly.Alex_Moiseyev wrote:

Alex, based on your time controls you laid out, do you mean 1 "game" would be done in no more than 3 hours without any delays? One hour first 30 moves for each player = 2 hours, plus extra half hour for each player = 3 hours. And that would just be 1 game. If we are to get 3 rounds a day in, we would probably need to limit the rounds to no more than 4 hours in length. When 4 hours is up perhaps stop watch should be used for 1 minute per move, for 15 minute period. If game is still not complete, then players or referee make decision.

Joe, you right. Perhaps best (if there is any best) solution will be giving 90 minutes to each player for both games. This would allow to control round time and do not terminate game.

We have the time clocks, and most of them even work. There's no good reason why at LEAST the master players shouldn't use them instead of relying on arbitration by a referee or program. It's easy to pause the time clocks if the players want to take a brief break between games.

I think it is best if the people in the masters get to vote on how and what format they use. That being said, there is the power of the purse. Funders of the tournament may want to have a say too. You may have a lot to say but one stone at a time.

Well, I've played in the Masters group several times at the Nationals, so I would have a vote either way. But my point is that these procedures should be settled ahead of time, instead of depending on whichever group of players happens to be in attendance at a given tournament. This is a basic part of professional behavior, and should be a no-brainer for ACF officers.

For people who are flying in/out they need to plan flights ahead of time, so the duration of the tournament should be set in stone well ahead of the event, not up for debate on the first day.

I would suggest that if players vote for additional rounds that instead of playing into Sunday that we play 12 rounds, 3 each on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This way there would be no problem with airline schedules or additional night at motel. It would be better if we could decide this ahead of time for all three categories.
