Kildare Open 2020
Youth Tournament

Report from Kildare Open by Mairead Breen

The Kildare Open draughts juveniles competition has gone from strength to strength over the last number of years.
The juveniles competition is played out alongside the Masters, Senior and Intermediate sections of the same event.
This year saw a record number of sixty-five juveniles travelling from all corners of the country, from Sligo to Longford and Meath to Cork.
Credit for organising the juvenile leg of the competition goes to Bill Dobbins of the Irish Draughts Association. Some years ago Bill decided that it would be a nice idea to encourage children back into competitive draughts. The growing number of participants year on year is proof that his initiative has paid off. Certainly some of the more competitive counties in community games draughts see it as the ideal opportunity to suss out the opposition in advance of their All-Ireland ties!
Trophies and monetary prizes were kindly sponsored by Croí Laighean Credit Union, as well as Liam Stephens.

Age categories went from U8 to U15.
The winners 2020 were as follows:
U8: Aaron Muldowney, Sligo
U9: Amine Bounounane, Meath
U10: Alex Hennessy, Cork
U11: Danny Donegan, Carlow
U12: Cathal Purcell, Carlow
U13: Heather Power, Cork
U14: Laura McElwain, Cork

What do you like about checkers?: Checkers is a game of pure logic.

Thank you Alex.
It seems, no doubt, that due to my lack of computer expertise, I am limited to transmitting just one attachment per posting. :D
Here is one more final photo.
