Re: World Qualifier Attendance
What makes you say the ACF is choosing favorites? Sounds to me like you should check your facts before you make assumptions.
First, Hugh Burton, Jerry Childers, and Pat Tucci have not played in the Nationals for several years now. Hugh Burton in particular is in his 80's and is not interested in traveling anymore. Gene Lindsay has legit merit, but for starters, I know he really does not care for GAYP. Not to mention that in 2005, Jim Morrison and Richard Beckwith were the best choices based on the 2005 Nationals. Those who finished ahead of Jim declined the invite. Michael was sent by the ICHF. In 2006, again Richard and Jim were the best choices after others declined their invite. I was there on behalf of the ICHF. Now in 2007, I would argue again that based solely on the 2005 Nationals results, the best players of those who accepted the invite are going again.
You can also argue that maybe the ICHF should not be allowed to send players (and I would agree, as does Alex as he has mentioned), but until the rule is changed to where the entrants are based by country and not be organization, then those decisions stand. After all, Barbados and Ireland have multiple federations. They just do not have enough players willing to travel and take advantage of this at this time.
It is also important to note that a lot of players do not accept the invite, due to the high cost of traveling to a different country, particular if they do not feel like they have a chance to win. A combination of money and age is likely the main reason why the best US masters do not attend the WQ. I mostly went in 2006 for the experience and a vacation to Scotland.

Re: World Qualifier Attendance
Michael Holmes and Clayton Nash will be in good use to throw games to the other Americans.

Yes I do! You are Clayton Nash! Whose young-adult social life consists of playing checkers with grandparents on the weekends.

Playing Strength
It is hard to argue with facts. The fact is that I am one of the few people that have won games from Moiseyev and even of more importance a round. I have also won a gayp game from Moiseyev. Although Alex is better than me the fact is that I am very qualified to play in this tourney. I think everyone that has been on the USA team would agree with this statement too.

I agree that Michael is qualified, but John Webster has a better record at GAYP, has a higher rating and he finished higher in the 2005 GAYP and yet he was not asked. No offense intended but, I agree with P.R. favoritism is definitely a factor in the ACF selection process(at least this time).

Concerning Dr. John Webster & others for the WQ
Hello everyone:
Just now got off the phone with Dr. Webster. We had a nice chat on various subjects. He will be in Vegas for our GAYP Nationals and I asked him to have some hats made to bring along to sell for this occasion. He also invited me to come to the upcoming N.C. Tournament .
We got around to the upcoming GAYP World Qualifier and he told me he appreciated being asked to play but declined the invitation. He was also asked in 2005 and declined .
There are players out there who are better than others, but have no desire to enter the WQ. Also to date only one player has approached me personally indicating their desire to enter and asking for consideration to be selected. Mr. Hallett flatly refused to enter as there is no prize money to be won in a WQ.
Either a player is interested or is not interested in entering the WQ. That is simply the way it is.
Sincerely:
Alan Millhone, President

Re: World Qualifier Attendance
I asked John if he would have played had he been asked first. He said that he would have but its no big deal, and he wasn't going to worry about it. I think it is a shame that he was passed over to start with until someone cried foul. I would like to know who was on the selection committe, as the "good buddy system" has no place in the ACF.
