From the most recent unproved rumors I heard - the winner of USA Open GAYP 2007, Lubabalo Kondlo from South Africa, will be added to the list.

I bet on grandmasters J. Morrison and E. Bruch in this company.

Alex

World Qualifier Updates

Post by Alan Millhone »

Hello Everyone:

I will have my wireless laptop set up during the week and daily results will be posted. Mrs. Kim Willis will arrive Sunday morning at the Plaza, not sure about Tim Laverty's arrival (Referee). I will land in Vegas at 8:30 PM Sunday evening.

Should be an interesting Qualifier for the men and the women who compete. I will not pick a favorite to win, but feel to win the Qualifier a player will need to win wins and not be satisfied with drawn games. Playing standard well known book lines in my opinion will not get the job done next week.

Sincerely:

Well, I think there is no clear favourite in the men's event.
I think that Bruch and Morrison will have their chance, but also Francis, Beckwith and Nash, and if he participates, Kondlo will be the sligtly favourite.
In the women's event Jan Mortimer looks like a clear favourite and she used the Welsh Open (GAYP) as a fitting preparation.
But I bet that Kim Willis and Wilma Wolverton will be better then before,
and it will be no easy task for Jan.
However I believe we will see good fighting games in that event, and it should encourage the further developement of chkers for women.
As the strongest Irish and Czech Juniors will be absent, I believe that at least one title can be pickes up by the US boys, but the toughest opponents were absent.
Nevertheless I expect a good level at this section, too.

I also believe that my friend Sune Thrane will finish as the best European player, and will give his american rivals a though fight.

I hope the games and results will be put on the internet as soon as possible, so that the next GAYP-Qualifier in two years may reach an even higher level.

Greetinx from sunny Dortmund,

Ingo Zachos

P.S: Are there any bids on the WCDF Qualifier for 2008 ? And when is the dead line for it ?

Don't forget score sheets ! If game not recorded - zero points to both players. If game not recorded and players not punished - kick off referee ! If game not recorded, players and referee not punished - kick off Federation !
