Congratulations to Lubabalo on his fine victory, and also to Jan on hers. Thanks also to Alan for keeping us up to date on the results. Regarding the conversations about the comparative merits of 3 move v GAYP it will be interesting to see whether the games won were crossboard games or pp wins. For my own interest I am compiling a crosstable of the event and would appreciate it if someone could provide me with the pairings for the final round. I know that draws were agreed but it would be good if I can complete the table.

Hello David:

Let me finish unpacking and see what I can determine on who did not play round 8. I had a great time watching, helping players with any special needs, posting updates on the forum (glad you enjoyed my comments).

Sincerely:

Dave,

I sent scoresheet copy to JR Smith at nccheckers.org this morning -- not sure when he will post it. Or, you can e-mail me at [url]beckwith_r@ricerca.com (without the [url]) and I will send it to you.

Mr Smith, thankyou for the final standings of the WCDF qualifier. If you are going to include ratings please use the WCDF world ratings, not the American ones of which i havent played in tournaments there for years. And it is a wcdf tournament, not an american one.

acf ratings are used for any event where a certain amount of acf players attend
also acf ratings are more accurate as they are more established

using both ratings would be fine also......tho that would require jr
to do more work....

It seems to me arrogant in the extreme that you would take American ratings at a wcdf tournament, after the hard work that the wcdf ratings committee have done in establishing ratings, and this is a wcdf tournament, particularly as ive played a lot since those ratings of years ago,and they havent been included.

arrogant in the extreme <doesnt make sense
why is it wrong to rate a tournament where acf members are present?
how else would those members get credit for it?

as in the other thread on ratings ...wcdf ratings are not established
which means they are not completely accurate
acf im rated 1700
wcdf i am rated 1900
which is right?

see acf is taking so many of my last so many games to give me a rating
so it doesnt mater that i have improved alot lately as i didnt do so well in the past ....and it takes time to bring it up

however my wcdf rating is higher because it only took into account
my more recent tournaments ......

As far as im concerned Patrick, rating me under ACF ratings is unbalanced particularly when i dont play in America, they have rated me on my first ever tournament about 7-8 years ago, since then ive played in different parts of the globe and done well, therefore my rating should be judged under wcdf, not american standard. To me it looks as if women really dont count in the ratings game, not in America anyway, and im very insulted.

Jan,

JR defaults to ACF ratings only for all events on his site, so I'm sure he didn't mean any ill will. You do raise a couple good points about it being a WCDF event and that you had not played in an ACF event for many years.

Even though it is a WCDF event, it is still useful to use this event in the ACF ratings since there were several Americans present, and more data is always better. The ACF also rated the Prague and Barbados qualifiers.

I also wonder how comparable the two ratings systems really are in that region of the list (as Patrick mentioned with his rating). I note all the women have WCDF ratings several hundred points higher......Mortimer = 2150 Wolverton = 1706 Willis = 1832. Also, WCDF ratings should hopefully undergo an update soon.

You are missing my point Patrick.American games are not the b all and end all of checkers.Yes i played in the world matches and qualifiers. Its fine to judge your american ratings when you play in America. For me i cant possibly attend them, unless i was a millionaire or had great sponsorship. My point is my ratings should be judged on my playing in overseas events, not solely on american events. The world revolves away from America. In fact id ask to have my American ratings deleted and be rated on the international events ive played in which is what WCDF have done. And that is the only accurate rating for me,an outsider to America.
