Re: English Open-Knighton
Congratulations Lindus and great scoring 3pt average is usualy enough to win most tournaments. Hmm perhaps you are considering chasing your fathers record of 5 straight titles. After eighteen games I had nine wins and nine draws and consequently had no need to play my last two games to win the event
Colin is always a great addition to have at any tournament I hope he makes a speedy and full recovery, get well soon Colin! On a very sad note, Colin Young of Scotland had a heart attack on the Wednesday morning whilst in the playing room.
Best Regards,
Shane

Re: English Open-Knighton
Lindus, congratulations ! 50% score (9 wins, 9 draws) is a great performance which is not easy to achieve - points are not coming from air
I wish Colin quick and easy recovery !

If it were so easy as a throw of the dice then you should have purchased a lottery ticket but we all know at the bottom of it, is years and countless hours toward the study of the game, in other words, you've done your homework and it shows. It was just a lucky throw of the dice and they landed OK for me.
I wish Mr. Young the very best in his illness and recovery.

Many thanks Jan, Liam, Shane, Pal and Alex for your kind words. I followed Alex's advice about not playing for draws and consequently won more games. Yes, it is better to lose a game, or even two, and win say eleven or twelve games than to win just four and draw sixteen games. Points make prizes
I am getting more aggressive in tournaments now

Many thanks Tommy. I was also deeply saddened to learn of Mike Madden's passing from Francis McNally at the English Open. As a mark of great respect two Irish players left the tournament to return to Ireland for Mike's funeral. Mike will be sorely missed.

Crosstable is now in Checker Sharing section.
Re: English Open-Knighton
It looks another badly laid out Ty..... 2nd only to the "Beijing Affair"......... poor decisions on the part of the organisers. As far as i can see there were only 6-7 real Master players so my is question why the Senior players were forced into this uncomfortable position ,were they again used as cannon-fodder (to make up the numbers )for the Masters,if so that does draughts no good at all if we re trying to promote the game in any real sense, considering some travelled long distances and prob at great expense to take part.
The English Open has fallen a great distance from what was a Premier event for many years ,which is sad really. I can only hope this is not the "death" of the English Open.
