Congratulations to Shane.

A European Championship match would be no bad idea.
But who should challenge who as we had no European Championships ever?

I think Sergio Scarpetta would be the one to ask as he is superior to any German, Italian or Czech player as long as Borghetti does not play on an 8x8 squared board.
And among the Scottish and British players William Docherty may be the right one to ask.
And Raivis Paegle who was 3rd in Beijing and Michail Shabshai would also be good candidates to be a European Champion and to play a EC match.

Greetinx from Dortmund after midnight,

Ingo Zachos

Excellent idea ! I was always a bit curious and surprise that after Pat McCarthy passed away, this most repectable title kept vacant. Restoring it again will be a great respect in memory of Pat.

Congratulations to Shane with winning hard match against tough opponent and retain his title !

William, you can't even imagine how true is your statement ! The things are that nobody took away my Russian citizenship.

Perhaps same thing apply to Ron, who has British passport, because he was born before 1966 - year when Barbados became an independent country.

See you all at European championship, folks !!!

Ingo I hope that I am making a mistake here , but isn't Shabshai from Israel ?? If so , I don't think that Israel is in Europe

Good man Tommy , It'll be nice to see you again . Make it in Ireland , not far from some player's houses , that way I can save on hotel and camping money

Probably best over a weekend with 4 days , with 20 games ?! ( work that one out , you are the organiser lol ).If you could try and get a prize fund up or contributions and Shane ( hey hold on , no-one asked Shane what he thought about all this!!)and myself could put up some cash too , with a winner take all idea ...

Hey Tommy ... your clock is ticking now

Hi my fellow european checker players,

the sad truth is that there is no european section of the WCDF or a seperated european federation and I doubt whether there is the intention to spent money and efforts on that.

But it could be a good idea to win the British and Irish match play title and then arrage a match with the best Italian Champion, as I belive they proved to be superior at the Nations Cup.
Maybe we could talk about the matter at the next Nations Cup if Ireland and /or Great Britain would dare to participate.

As for Israel, William, the IOC, the IAAF and UEFA etc. have categorized it as european and not asian.
Like Kourou is French, tough in America and is the european spaceport.
Geography sometimes is political corrected uf I may say so.

A european effort for checkers would be great, so if Shane or William (after they played for the Irish and British Match play title) want to strive for european laurels the respective national title holders ,if I am correct, are:

Italy: Sergio Scarpetta
Germany: Ingo Zachos
Czech Republic: Filip Kareta
Denmark: Sune Trane

all of them won the title in tournaments, as there are no match play titles so far.

Greetinx from cloudy and cold Dortmund,

Ingo

I think Lindus Edwards would be a good candidate for that title also.

Hi John,

Three Welsh Open Championships - won by virtue of sheer luck, as was the case at this year's English Open. :D
