Your best bet is to find a place in a hotel that would give you a free room to play in.... just promise that u will have a certain amount of rooms occupied and if u call around they should hook you up.

I will also contact Jolt and talk him into coming. I know he would want to be NY state champ and D2 champ.

GL with your ventures

Bobby your enthusiasm is inspiring and it is great to see...
from someone who wants to host a tournament and let's himself to get talked out of it by other peopl and by his own fears.... i'd say, just do it.... it sounds like theres a lot of support behind you.

blessed be the doers, for they shall inherit good will

cheers

Bobby, whats the problem ?!?!

Assuming we have 12 players and assuming entry fee is $25, you are dealing now with $300 ... this is enough money to pay fully or partially for playing room for two days + trophy and accessories. Rest of money (if any) will go to prices.

But even if we have a cheap deal and not much money left for price - event still secured and

As John mentioned - try to get discount rate and guarantee them (hotel manager) 5 rooms for 2 nights.

Check all hotels and see the best deal. Your negitiations should be mainly about playing room - get it cheaper and save more money for prices.

As director of event - it is your responsibility to raise money all legitimate way and indeed there is some work which needs to be done outside of this forum

After you get dates, location and hotel rates, informaton about event must be sumitted to all major checkers media for publishig: ACF Bulletin, MCA Newsletter, EDA Newsletter, webmasters.

In advance, you can try to publish information about event on VOG, Yahoo, Kurnik, Microsoft - major gaming sites. And indeed - AC local newspaper. It won't cost you much money, maybe nothing.

I spoke with jolt and he said he will consider going which means that there is a pretty good chance of this happening.

For the time now next important step for Bobby is - visiting hotels and negotiations, picking dates.

Only after knowing an exact dates and locations, he can start seriously recruiting new players.

Bobby, good luck and ... be my hero, I know you can do it !

Bobby,

You can look at ACF calendar (left panel of home page at usacheckers.com), as I think the 2011 events are almost all posted. The idea is to avoid weekends where another eastern US event may already be playing.

My tournament guide covers a number of strategies regarding setting up and conducting tournaments. It's fairly up-to-date, although there are a few new things I want to do with this document. http://www.usacheckers.com/tournamentguide.php

Lastly, I commend you for looking into setting up a tournament -- given that you have only attended one tournament. Many folks are content to come and play and let others do the behind-the scenes work, although we certainly need and welcome all players too.

What do you like about checkers?: Always enjoyed the game and the challenge it brings. Just you and your opponent battling your minds. Also, it's just a friendly game that people can just sit and have fun playing while communicating with each other.

Sounds like this could turn out to be a great tournament. I've never been up north so I would consider taking a trip from Tennessee to play. Keep up the good work. This is also something that me and a few others in my checker club here in Madisonville have talked about. I live in East Tennessee and we have no tournaments here. We have the Strawberry Festival which is in West Tennessee and then we have the TN state and Southern States Tournament which is usually in Lebanon, TN (Middle Tennessee). We would like to get a tournament started in East TN as well. But anyhow, good luck with NJ tournament and I'll do my best to attend if you guys get it going.

What do you like about checkers?: Checkers is a good stimulating exercise for the mind. At age 67 I'm still having fun and still learning after quitting for 17 years and starting again with the North Carolina Open Checker Tournament

Alex
maybe Joe Schwartz will bring Richard Hallett, Pat Quartucci and Jack Francis along?!!

I think a tourney like that would maybe tempt Richard Beckwith and Michael Holmes to be there

You wanted a Jersey title shot. Why not just come up with an offer convenient for you and the champ to play a 30 game match for the title?

anything with single corner should be given to "homosexual taunts"

this was witnessed in a well known playing site
nicknames have been changed to protect the innocent

idiot 1: I challenge thee to a 8 game series
idiot 1: BRUTAL 8 Game series
idiot 2 : brutal, because it will be played by brutes?
idiot3 : that was so gay
idiot 2: saying "thats gay" is gay
idiot3 : saying thats gay is gay is gay
