Sune ..... i also quietly (quietly is relative isn't it LOL)disagree with that statement :) my only proof is that my country has been in the top 3 spots for "world's most livable nation" for the last 10 years.... today the only 2 economies doing better than us are China and India.
My only complaint against Oz is that it is too far from everyone.... but then again maybe that is why it is the way it is....

we could be arguing all day about this one and get nowhere.... :D
cheers

4-5) Bashim Durdyev, 5
4-5) Jim Morrison, 5
6-7) Richard Beckwith, 4
6-7) Amangul Berdiyeva, 4
8 ) Claudio Ciampi, 4
9) Filip Kareta, 4
10-11) Igor Martinov, 3
10-11) Ingo Zachos, 3

5 points separating the whole field, that is remarkable....
it is anybody's game ... but for those who want to contend they better not let Sergio run away too far...

cheers and good luck to everyone

Sune, thanks for the (Huffington) post, it has much good "food for thought."

Danny, you are right, they can't let Sergio "surge" too far ahead at San Remo!

Standings, results and games in San Remo:

http://www.cdadamello.com/public/tornei ... index.html

also first impressions:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 337&type=3

Erika Rosso has secured a big lead in her event.
She is the youngest player and a pupil of GM Paolo Faleo.
It looks like no one can stop her from challenging Amangul for the title in 2011 in what could be the last title match for women, as the GA decided to held the Ladies event as a World Championship tournament each year.

In the Juniors the Silver medalist of the last European Youth Championship, Alessio Scaggiante, is ahead, but Maksat Durdyev is in striking distance, while Gennaro Bruno showed better then the day before.

In the main event, Jack Francis closed the gap to Sergio, who could not realise his winning chances against Bashim Durdyev today, and was held to staright draws by Lubabalo.

Jack and Sergio now playing for the lead at the top board.

Germany surprisingly won the "team match" against the USA today, while Amangul held Jim to two draws. Like Igor Martynov she plays much better then in the Open.

I was asked to step in as a reserve player to make it an even number, and so far I played not very good, blundering a sure win against Igor and after seeing clear draw shots against Jim and Garret I went for wins (which were never there), and was lucky that Garrett blew in a kings against three kings ending. Again it proved to be not as easy as many think it is...
Jim showed less mercy, and killed me.

Richard lost to Igor and is at minus one, while Anthony arrived late and suffered early defeats. Filip is not playing as good as in the Open before, just like surprise tailender Roberto.

Garret showed great spirit, by getting a plus score, despite the setback of two big blunders against me and Lubabalo.

Bashim played well against Sergio, but Jack scored against him, while Claudio had a hangover against Sergio and Igor, but took it back from Roberto and Anthony, who after crushing losses on day one, maybe due to jet-lag, managed to reduce the damage today.

Jim is rock solid, but could not score big. Only i gave a win to him, after trying to go for a win, instead of taking the planned 14-17 shot for a draw.
Lubabalo plays solid, but was lucky that Garrett blundered.

Jack Francis scored against Filip and Bashim, but he needs to gain ground to Sergio, who could have increased his lead, but missed a win against Bashim.

Despite Roberto against Sergio, no one yet gave away two wins to the same player!

Great Article Sune.... i too think there is a special quality about Danes and Scandinavian people .... and i also do trust them.... i liked this line in the article.... its pure gold
"Tea party types dismiss Denmark as a hotbed of socialism, but really, they're just practicing a more enlightened kind of capitalism".
i have always said in my opinion the solutions usually lie in the middle, not on the extremes.

My only retort to this is the following link which is the Human Development Index as released by the United Nations.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... justed_HDI
i am in the process of developing my own index in which i take into consideration the weather :) and then Australia will take the first 20 spots

Hahahahaha Nice one George ..... great pun !!!!

Ingo thanks for posting about the tournament we do appreciate it and we do know you are busy playing and posting pics (i loved the photos you posted on the WCDF facebook page) and everything else.

Good luck to everyone....i think time is running out for some of the field.

I know we are only halfway through the event but would i be too harsh in saying whoever isn't within 3 points of the leader is out of contention????
cheers

New World Title Match paticipant Erika Rosso, also 2011 Woman Champion in Italian Checkers. From 10 games - 9 wins - fantastic result. Her match with Amangul will be very interesting.
