each plus Software developement, plus clocks for that boards, plus transport costs, as 10 electronic boards do not fit in my luggage. For Lille digital clocks and table cards and board cards plus laptop already caused exra wheight for me, and the pieces, boards and flaggs for others.
I know dreams and plans are limitless, but reality is that the WCDF just began to buy equipment, uses borrowed clocks and if we increase the fees many not only in the ACF would simply ask their federation to leave the "expensive" qnd "useless" WCDF, as they did many times in the past.
And if we actually spent all of our money we have, as you suggest, what would remain for the next events?
I do not like deficit spending, so some financial cushion is reasonable, but it would not be enough to buy a house or hire professional referees, not even enough to pay travel costs for the referees or to organize and fund Olympic games. The cushion is actually a discount shop cushion.
It seems that I have to play a role that I hate, and that is to spoil the party by simply asking to be modest.
A few more federations that join the WCDF, a postive developement in membership in most federations, more juniors in our youth world championship would be already very much.
Electronic boards are great gadgets, no question, but the 1st step was to organize QT`s and WCM. In the last 10 years the WCDF, with generous and much appreciated help by the IDA, ACF, FID and other member federations had managed that.
And some even were heavily critisized for conditions, funding, bad referees and bad organization that they probably will not dare to stage a bid again.
And I think despite heavy critism, disputes, financial crises and declining membership in traditional Checker/Draughts Countries the WCDF has had modest success in modernizing and structering the Checkerworld that now looks different then 10 years ago, when national federations were isolated islands, though we also must be pround of the history and tradition of our game.
Now it is time to get some infrastructure like equipment, software, a laptop, flaggs, table cards and other less expensive, but more necessary items like electronic boards, so that we can offer the FMJD or IMSA or a federation that bids to organize a QT something and that the WCDF is not as dependend on others as it is now, and might even lend a helping hand in say providing regular boards for our QT`s and World Championship Matches.
