Last opening at the end of the 2nd day was "Black Hole": 10-14, 22-17, 9-13 Nothing significant happen in the last 8th game where Miki had red pieces, uneventful draw. But in game #7 the following position occurred.

I played this position against Lubabalo in Beijing 2014. He played here losing 11-16? but I failed to win and missed win later. It's not just a "published play", this is his (Lubabalo) own play which he suppose to study and improve. I have very little doubts that champion studied all available to public Lubabalo games and in particular this line before match and also find a missing win. But even if Miki didn't know anything, Lubabalo definitely shouldn't fail into the same loss again.

3rd match day wasn't bloody but still interesting and attractive. Two GAYP openings generated 4 draws and 4 nice games. Here are few interesting moments which I discovered from games.

Ron King pet line 27-20 ! Lubabalo played here 12-16 which is probably new but completely taken away red advantage. 9-14 is considered the best here with 8-11 & 10-15 runners up. After 9-14 white play must be quiet restrictive to reach narrow, weak draw.

I hope no typos. This line can be found here:

- Denvir & Bradt's "Second Double Corner" (Chicago, 1891), page 11, trunk plus variant 60. At the end of the line one can read 'Draw game. Bowen.'

Some of the books who made references to Anderson's work in this line were:

- Henry Spayth's "American draught player" (sixth edition, 1880), page 210, trunk plus variant 5 ('Drawn. Anderson'). Already noted by Jim.

- Anderson & M'Culloch's "The game of Draughts simplified and illustrated with practical diagrams. Third edition" (Glasgow, 1878), page 84, trunk plus variant 5 ('Drawn'). It does not appear any name, so I think this line should be credited to Anderson or M'Culloch.

And finally:

- Anderson's "The game of Draughts simplified and illustrated with practical diagrams. Second edition" (Glasgow, 1852), page 122, trunk plus variant 2 ('drawn').

So, I see this line in an Anderson's work before 1860. Probably Jim got fooled (something very strange indeed) because the order of the moves is not exactly the same than in Borghetti-Kondlo game, but it is the same line if I am not wrong. I played it with Cake and the final position was the same, transpositions aside.

I would thank you if you write this in the forum, just to see if Jim finally agrees with me and Borghetti-Londlo tenth game of 2015 is indeed trunk plus variant 2 in Anderson's book of 1852. Thanks in advance.

An opening in evening session today was 10-15 22-17 9-13 - not even and not critical. In 1st game #15 Miki had a white pieces and here where some blood circulated in the air but never materialize!

In position on diagram #1 Lubabalo played fast enough losing 16-20? Instead, 8-12 allowed to keep draw in hands.

In the 2nd game Miki followed my recommendation (in "Sixth") 7-10 trade and Lubabalo followed his own intuition It was interesting scientific and original game. At one point Miki was forced to make two the only drawn moves in the row to reach a draw.

The 9th opening was the black dyke: 11-15 22-17 15-19. In the first game Miki made a blunder and Kondlo won the endgame easily. The second game was a standard draw. The score is 4 wins to Miki,1 win to Kondlo and 13 draws.

In this relatively simple position Miki made a blunder: 27-24?? 20x27, 31x23, 14-18*, 23x14, 15-19 etc and eventually Lubabalo won his first game in the match.

Interesting thing - in the next game #18 position on diagram happen again and here Lubabalo played correct 23-19 with draw.

     It is strange to see a Borghetti blunder: he did not wait enough for ..., 27-24. The current match score is 4-1 in favour of Borghetti with 13 draws and 22 games to play if I am not wrong. I suppose that a tied match means Borghetti repeating as world champion.

4-1-15 Miki leads due to his loss today.

Early on it looked like Miki would be on his way to a blowout, but Kondlo has stepped up his game a bit and has gotten a bit fortunate in drawing some GAYP openings. Can Kondlo keep up the great playing and keep the match close? Or will it be Miki to step his game up and run away with the match? We shall see.

This position happened in my game with Michael Holmes TN 2004. See full text of game in "Sixth", SG-45, note "E", Pg. 331. Me and Miki played here 29-25, 14-17, 25-22 etc. L. Kondlo later improved Michael play and got very promising powerful play. The question is - how white can avoid all these complications and problems ?

We have to go back to position on diagram. Here is the best and easy way out - 23-19! with following 24-20, 27-24 and trade 2 for 2 which red can't stop.
