Re: WMSG Lille 2012
Before I move ahead with selecting games from other rounds, I want to ask you - if it makes sense and people are really interesting my posts ? I covered 3 rounds so far, but feedback was extremely miserable and close to zero. No comments, analyses, critics, contra arguments, no interest.
Only Tommy is jumping and post something every time when he sees new openings Number of viewers is not too bad, but I suspect it's just few people who review my posts many times.

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
Well I am not surprised given the number of these type of posts that I have made that didn't get any replies - maybe you should try to work in an insult on each game maybe people will respond then .
It would be nice if you would post the full game in pdn with some kind of indicator of where we are in the game so it would be easier to follow. Tommy is also just posting stuff that is impossible to follow like "8-11 is .... " 8-11 where ????

Agree, you right indeed. But in this case it will not be "Selected Positions", it will be "Selected games" with normal or close to normal annotations. This is much more work and efforts.MostFamousDane wrote:It would be nice if you would post the full game in pdn with some kind of indicator of where we are in the game so it would be easier to follow.
I thought that grabbig just an interesting moment of game and diagrammed it with few words comments will be easy and more attractive.
My posts are "skeleton" for future serious comments.
Anyway ... I will continue my work, first of all because this is very beneficiary for myself and my preparation for upcoming BIG MATCH next year.

Actually it's easy, all I need - to say that almost each game (more than 80%) has critical error which change scientific result of game and "average level" of QT is no better than ACF National in Lebanon. Number of replies on such post would jump significantly.
However I don't say this, even if it''s absolutely true - because it will insult people.
Two-three Italian stars do not raise significantly "average level" of event, we have to look at whole picture.

Selected Positions from Round 5 were completed yesterday and you can observe them here
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3062
Separate full complete annotation of 2nd game from rd. 5 between Bagtiyar Durdyev vs S. Scarpetta is here
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3063&p=24727#p24727
Quite important and crucial game, perhaps the only one where Sergio was in lost in this event but eventually won - due to Bagtiyar horrible blunder 1 for 2.

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
My biggest surprise was losses on the Montrose Cross 11-15, 23-18, 15-19.
This is an opening I am interested in from a GAYP standpoint. It looks
like Black can take control of the game with 15-19, neutralizing many
of White's potential moves. For a GAYP duffer (me) it looks like a good
way to steer clear of unfamiliar lines that my opponent is familiar with!
Acording to Fortman in Basic Checkers, 15-19 was a favorite of Maurice Chamblee.
Mr. Alex in his above post/link has a brilliant analysis of one of the Montrose Cross
games, if you like shots....

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
My second biggest surprise is a game decided by computer, as explained by Igor Martynov in his excellent article
from shashki.com that translates well from the original Russian with Google Translate.
Mr. Alex has mentioned this, and here is the link. This even surprised Mr. Alex! What is going on here?

Alex....................
Thats because im only interested in the NEW openings and im NOT jumping...................Im with these openings for 15 years and they are my only interest in draughts without them i wouldnt even be on this site,so im sorry about that.
.I had all the NEW ones analysed long before yu got started.[ Mainly for my own benifit] But yur doing a good job its disappointing more people dont take note.
One reason why alot arent interested ,....in my opinion, you dont put the 3 Openings Moves that the play yu showing comes from. Id like to see that and then pple have something to hold on to ,get interested in not a maze of numbers and diagrammes plucked from the QT. Its just my opinion ,oh and i hope yur not waiting for THAT email.
PS Just back from the Home Internationals, not without controversy either ..........Congrats to Northern Ireand the NEW Champions a title the Republic of Ireland held for manys a year.More on this layter and some games also whenevr time allows.

Re: WMSG Lille 2012
Alex,
I'll give you some feedback from a problemist's perspective if you will give me some occasional feedback on the problem composing contests.
I may appreciate your collections of "selected positions" more than most players of the game. I am not particularly interested in the games from which your selections arise. Most of those games are flawed anyway, as you frequently point out.
What I do seek to find are ideas that can be built into superior problem compositions. I realize some game positions are problems that cannot be improved, but I believe the vast majority would benefit from some composer creativity.
I can't say yet whether or not any of your "selected positions" can be transformed into masterpieces. As you have said, accurate review of a game takes time. Likewise, accurate composition of a good problem takes time too.
It is probably worth mentioning that these days both require the aid of a good computer program.
Although I primarily view your "selected positions" as a problem composer, I do in each case compare the move I would make against the one you identify as correct. The first time they match will be cause for celebration!

Well said, Bill ! We'll talk about this in Bedford - there is alot of things we can discuss and share related to composition.Bill Salot wrote:I realize some game positions are problems that cannot be improved, but I believe the vast majority would benefit from some composer creativity.
Don't forget - I am FMGD grandmaster in composition since 2010, GMP (GM Problematic) and have good experience composing 10x10 problems in the past 6 years.
