Re: WMSG in progress !
Josh anything is possible seeing as no-one can count to twelve poor Aleksey Papulovas from Lietuva was counted as 11pts and not even he noticed, and as he got 4pts in the last rd what rd was he docked a point in 1st/2nd/3rd?? rds throwing the preceding draws out somewat,no doubt.

Re: WMSG in progress !
In 5th round I scored one win against Aleksey from Lietuva, Ron King and Mustafa Durdyev each won a piece, Bagtiyar Durdyev also won one game against Italian grandmaster, Richard Beckwith played two draws with Shane McCoskey, and Amangul played two draws with G. Owens ... but I believe she missed a win in second game.
Here is a pairing for the 6th round for top boards:
1. A. Moiseyev (USA), 17 pts vs B. Durdyev (TKM), 15 pts
2. M. Durdyev (TKM), 14 pts vs A. Papulovas (LTU), 13 pts
3. R. King (BAR), 14 pts vs S. McCoskey (IRL), 12 pts
4. J. Morrison (USA), 12 pts vs De Mirko (ITA), 12 pts
5. R. Beckwith (USA), 12 pts vs A. Shonin (RUS), 11 pts
6. A. Durdyeva (TKM), 11 pts vs P. Raivis (LAT), 11 pts
...................................................................
Stay on for late news

Alex

Re: WMSG in progress !
In 6th round I played two draws with Bagtiyar Durdiyev, Mustafa won both games against his opponent from Lietuva, Ron King won 1st game against Shane McCoskey and 2nd game is still in progress, though draw is more likely.
After 6 rounds I have 19 points, Mustafa - 18, Bagtiyar 17 and Ron should have 17 if his 2nd game will be draw.
James Morrison and Richard Beckwith played two draws with their opponents. Amangul Durdyeva won 1st game, but may lose 2nd (still in progress).
Tomorrow in 7th round I should play with Mustafa and Ron should play with Bagtiyar.
Stay on for late news.

Alex

Re: WMSG in progress !
Hello:
Mr. Alex and others, all updates, etc. appreciated. I assume all games are recorded and turned in by round ? Will games at some point be processed by someone ? This is the first time for this type of event and am sure that adjustments will be made by future organizers.
I may have missed it Mr. Alex , but what was your opening with Suki ?
Regards to all of you over there in Beijing !
Sincerely:

Re: WMSG in progress !
The format being used in Beijing is a complete disappointment, the best players from each country expecting to match their wits and skills against the best from other renowned checkers playing countries, and what are they presented with?, being matched with players no one has ever heard tell of, ranked absolutely no-where in the draughts world. Most I imagine are there for the ride and who would blame them.
This Ty was supposed to be the "bees knees" the Ty of all Tys and this is what we are getting, a half hearted Ty of going thru the motions to get a winner, playing by numbers and not what we expected as the pinnacle of draughts. Now I’m not saying lesser countries or players don’t deserve to be there because they do. If only the "organisers" had shown some forward thinking , some insight to this great event, no doubt we would have had a truly great "first" on the road to Olympic inclusion in London 2012.
Instead we got a mealy mouthed competition in name only. Alan suggests this might be "adjusted" by future organisers but its obvious someone should put the "organisers" and this "lame duck" out of its misery and start again on a clean page.
I would suggest they might have had a different format of lets say :2 sections ; one for the higher ranked players maybe 20players + in or around that, or have a cut off point at 2100, and the other section for the anyone who has no ranking at all or is at a lower ranking. Let each section play so many rounds and then take the top 8 to 10 from each section and pit them against each other for the finals. This is what was done in the 10 x 10 Ty and it worked much better.
It may not be a perfect plan but anything has got to be better than what we got.
I’m just so disappointed with all the incompetence. Makes you wonder did anyone give this any thought at all.

Re: WMSG in progress !
The opening which I played with Suki in 4th round was 9-13 24-19 11-16. In first game Ron played with white 22-18 8-11 25-22 and here I was very much on my ownAlan Millhone wrote:but what was your opening with Suki ?
In second game after opening moves I played 22-18 and Ron replied suspicious 5-9 ??! I can't say without program that this is 100% loss, but it seems to be. I replied 28-24 ... etc and after 12 or 15 moves Ron position was complete disaster. Then he started thinking again and wait until his flag fail again.
Alan, all games are recorded and will be available soon after tournament will be over.
Any Swiss system is a lottery, and I didn't have much luck in this lottery by picking an easy opponents. But we probably forget that checkers is a SPORT ... this is the way it suppose to be !
Many thanks to all my fans and supporters ! Nothing over yet and everything is ahead !Don't be overexcited if I do well, and don't be disappointed if I don't win all games

Re: WMSG in progress !
7th round is still in progress. I was lucky to get 3 points from Mustafa in opening 11-16 23-18 9-14. Bagtiyar won his first game against Ron King and now they are playing very complicated 2nd game. They have opening 9-14 22-18 11-15.
William Docherty won one game against Igor Martynov, Mikhail Shabshai from Israel won one game against Hugh Devlin, Jim Morrison and Richard Beckwith played one game to draw, and 2nd game also looks drawn.
If Bagtiyar survive in 2nd game - he will take the 2nd place.
More later ...
Regards,
Alex

Re: WMSG in progress !
Well, well, well
Ron won 2nd game against Bagtiyar. Now, after 7 tounds I have 22 points, and Ron, Mustafa and Bagtiyar are tied 2-4 with 19 points. Noone have 18 points and I beleive M. Shabshai and W. Docherty have 17 points. Pairing for the 8th round not done yet, but I will be very surprise if I don't play with William

On the ladies side of the game a new name in the form of the Mongloian lassie (pictured)Javean Gerelchuluun is quite interesting for future contests. She is on 15 pts with same as Amangul and (if im seeing right that she is in fact a female by her photo ) a new contender for the Ladies Title ?? .

Have you heard of any regulation drug testing in the group so far Alex??? Or indeed in any of the Mind Sports?.

Re: WMSG in progress !
Hello Everyone:
I met for the first and only time the Mongolian Lady and her Husband in Anderson,S.C. at our ACF Nationals in 2003 and lost track of them. I remember writing a couple of letters on their behalf to their Embassy asking that they be allowed to attend.
Nice to read about her once more and perhaps she can come again to compete in one of our National Tournaments
Looks like Mr. Alex will take home the Gold !! I know enough about the game to know that you have to " Win Wins" in order to come out in 1st. place.

Re: WMSG in progress !
The Mongolian lady has been doing exceptionally well and is even with Amangel in points,i would say she would probably be the next 3 move contender,Ive been following with interest the whole event, but the womens event in particular has been very interesting, particularly as i have just accepted to travel to Turkmenistan to play Amangel next year.It is great to see the women do so well in this world event.
