Neil,

Yeaa ... it's better now ! 4-3 system is approved for many years in many states to be the best for 2 days weekend schedule.

I don't have much questions, objections or appreciations for your HP proposals. I will be glad to play under this system and see how it works.

Thanks for your efforts setting a tournament.

Neil, you have a vision for what you feel would be best for this tournament and are sticking to it, good job. I approve of everything and greatly appreciate your efforts to set this tournament up.

I have one more suggestion to make that may improve attendance. I suggested earlier that we allow first time tournament players to not have to pay ACF membership, just the entry fee. I am going to try and do some heavy promoting for this tournament before hand to try and get some new people involved. I think requiring membership will only make newcomers question more if they want to come because lets face it, to them checkers is still a kids game. But, if we allow them to play in their first tournament free of membership and give them a trial run, I think this will encourage them and influence more people to come and then hopefully sign up for ACF. With the entry fee we allow them to play in their first tournament, but they won't receive ACF benefits until they sign up. Just a suggestion and something I think could encourage more participation.

Joe, I am open to the part about new players not playing ACF fee, but if they win prize money that would cover the ACF fee, that amount should be deducted from their prize fund and sent to ACF for a membership for them. I think you should run that by Richard Beckwith and Jason Solan to get their thoughts on your proposal. I am listing my revised proposal for 2012 PA Open CT here and invite comments and suggestions on it from any who wish to add, hopefully any PA player who would be involved!! :)

Proposed 2013 Pennsylvania State Open Checker Tournament
All standard ACF rules will apply to this tournament and ACF membership will be required. Also, an entry fee of $15.00 is payable at signup.
This will be a seven round, two game per round tournament. Two and a half hours will be the allotted time for each round. There will be one class unless at least six Master Class Caliber players are present. If so and there are enough players to play two classes, there will be an “A” and a “B” class.
In case of tied game scores, honor points will be used. X and Y are two prospective opponents. If X wins both games from Y, X will be awarded all of Y’s game points for honor points. If X wins one game and draws the other, X will be awarded ¾’s of Y’s game points for honor points. If X and Y split, X will be awarded ½ of Y’s game points for honor points. If X loses one game and draws the other, X will be awarded ¼ of Y’s game points as honor points. Of course if X loses both games, X will receive no game points as honor points. The lowest opponent will be dropped when computing honor points, thus only six opponent scores will count toward honor point accumulation.
Day one Meeting to include registration will be from 8: AM to 9:00 AM
Round one 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Break for lunch 11:30 to 12:30 PM
Round two 12:30PM to 3:00 PM
Round three 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Break for supper 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Round four 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Day two
Round five 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM
Round six 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM
Break for lunch 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Round seven 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, Prizes awarded at 4:30 PM
If all players have finished a round before the allotted end time, next round can be started early. If round is still in progress after two and a half hour time limit, players will be put on a move a minute for ten minutes and if no progress adjudication will be asked for.

What if they don't want an ACF membership after the tournament? Do they still get to keep the prize money they won? If we are saying to them, you can play in your first tournament, but any prize money you win has to go to an ACF membership, they could still be hesitant to come. Chances are, if it their first tournament, they won't win a high prize fund anyway.

I think for Majors and Masters they should have to pay membership fees but a prorated portion for the remainder of the years.

That is a gracious gesture on the part of John Acker. John, you are getting to be an important contributor to ACF checkers and your help needs to be acknowledged. Your use of the new program for showing checker results is for the betterment of the game!

I didn't find any official announcements in ACF Calendar for PA 2013. Usually it comes earlier in the beginning of year. Do we have it this year 1 day on gas station ?

I asked Jason a few weeks ago about it, so announcement could reach the April bulletin. He was trying to organize the tournament at a college inside Carlisle, PA, but his contacts were being problematic about responding to any of Jason’s inquiries. I’m not sure what the latest is, but that’s why things haven’t been progressing well.

I spoke to Jason and he also told me the College did not get back to him whatsoever, so that idea is pretty much stratched. With the tournament announcement not able to make the April bulletin, he was looking into the idea of having it in August. I suggested Mid-August weekend of the 17th as there are no tournaments scheduled for that time. So who would be up for August and when would be the best time for everyone?
