Hi George,

Some may think I am good enough to play in the qualifiers, and I thank you sincerely for your kind words. I do not, however, consider myself good enough for such an event.

The WCDF Ratings is another matter of course. The list needs to be looked at again, and not only from my point of view! I seriously doubt if quite a number of players will agree with it.

All one need do is consider how a player who has never won a prize in a major tournament be placed next to a grandmaster such as Tom Watson! Yes, the WCDF Ratings are a little off to say the least!

Best wishes,

Lindsus.

I am not a ratings processor, so can only speak qualitatively. Anomalous ratings for a few have been around for many years, in my experience. Assuming all data was keyed in correctly, a rating can be considered less stable when there are fewer data points (i.e., games) for a given player. It seems many sentences have been expended on a gentleman who had <40 games, one of the lowest on the list.

Richard, you wrote: "Assuming all data was keyed in correctly, a rating can be considered less stable when there are fewer data points (i.e., games) for a given player."

The fact is that the "data" was not keyed in correctly so far as the "latest" WCDF Ratings List is concerned. Several major tournaments, which I won during the past few years, were not "keyed in" and it is little wonder therefore why the list is a shambles.

One should not have to reach the point of complete mental exhaustion to see what is, after all, obvious!

I will not waste further time on this matter.

Regards,

Lindus Edwards.

We had no active ratings processor for a couple years. I am thankful Joe Moore graciously volunteered (even though unpaid, and all while learning the ropes of a new baby) to rebuild the ratings. These things take time to rebuild, and he has just focused on events of 2014 and later. Of course, he can only rate tournaments that people actually send him (and preferably in the T format and with FULL names to streamline things). John Reade has sent additional events since Joe processed his first list.

We have had no World ratings since 2010. The latest ratings published in December 2014 include American players only, so they are essentially ACF ratings, not World ratings. I have sent Joe Moore the results of recent events in Europe but it will take some time to get the European ratings fully up to date.

Thank goodness for that John! This explains why the WCDF Ratings List is so completely inaccurate. When I clicked on my name in the list I saw that quite a number of tournaments had not been mentioned. These were ones I had won!

It is of no importance whether I am ranked 93 or 53 in the list. It is merely that I like to see things done properly. By doing so we present a far better image to the world of our game and indeed the people who run it.

Many thanks again to you John. I do not know what we would do without you. You are a man who always listens, understands and does something about it.

Best wishes always,

Lindus.

And indeed many thanks Joe Moore who find time in his busy schedule to take care of World ratings.

He is da man !

I would certainly nominate him for official WCDF Rating processor position if such position exists and vacant.

Is there any way that 3 people can do the ratings?
i think in chess more than one person does it.

this way we can be more speedy.

Yes, I agree completely that the task of doing the WCDF Ratings is a difficult one. It might well be best if several assisted Mr Moore in this regard.

Here is a list of current champions. It might assist in some way to calculate the the ratings. I appreciate, of course, that there is more to it than that!

i am not sure if doing the ratings is a paid job. But if we want to move more swiftly i suggest two more persons step forward
in helping with it. :D

I agree with you completely Kent. It is a difficult task for one person to undertake as it involves gathering a great deal of information and so on. I think lack of information concerning a great number of tournaments had much to do with the somewhat topsy-turvy appearance of the latest ratings list.

It pleases me that some have paid attention to the highly conspicuous errors of the ratings list. I do not highlight the matter in order to criticize anybody.

I am sure that the list will be more accurate once more information has been submitted and “keyed in” as it were!

I think checkers can go forward alot more.

Mr Beckwith and his team has come up with alot of ideas Draughts would cup and so on.

But i hope what i have handed to the table in leting 2 or 3 persons help with the ratings is looked at.

I have notice in Draughts only one thing is looked at and thats World champion. while in chess

A Grandmaster is hightly though of.well we all cant be world champion. and i thing players are looking forward to see if they have become A grandmaster and what they ratings look like.

Next thing i would like the Wcdf look at is trying to get countries that have fallen off the map. For Example is there still a Candian club?i heard Austrilla had good players. And New Zealand

Yes i pay attention to the sport. :blackeye:

Many will be pleased to hear that something is being done about the list. I am in regular contact with Dr John Reade who sent me the following message this morning:

“I think it will be some time before the ratings show a true picture. Joe Moore has all the American results but there is a big gap in the European results he hasn't got access to.”

I appreciate that Mr Moore is doing the very best he can with the scanty information he has. It is hoped that once he receives information, particularly in respect of European tournaments, the list will be far more accurate.

Thank you Kent for your enthusiasm. I like it very much.

If any player is interested in accommodation with breakfast in Knighton I suggest they contact John Owen at the following address. I had booked a room at this lovely guest house at £30.00 a night. I have informed John that I wish to cancel my booking and he was very nice about this. I highly recommend this guest house as it is a short walk (150 yards at most from the playing venue). It is very clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast is delicious. Many players, including Liam Stephens, Jan Mortimer, Frank Moran and myself have enjoyed their stays there. This guest house is very large and only has six bedrooms, all of which have extremely comfortable double beds with televisions and en-suite bathroom and toilets.
