Its been an interesting morning. The Ukrainian Kolin held Borghetti to 2 draws, while Ron picked up a win against Richard, leaving Ron & Michele tied again, though Ron has less BD points and those two losses to Michele. Its far from over.

In the womens event Erika had a win and draw with Amangul, with the Ukrainian Nadiya going top with two wins, again its not over yet.

The meeting this am (100, 64, checkers) provided no progress and there is frustration at the current situation. Richard is getting a warm baptism!

Just want to say that I appreciate all the hard work and effort that Mr. Devlin has put into the WCDF along with all the others who strive to make our game better for all players.

I believe DR. Beckwith is a good choice to succeed Mr. Devlin and wish him success in his efforts.

Also, I want to think Ingo for keeping us well informed of the goings on in Lille. Good job Ingo!

A short correction:

Not Sergio Scarpetta took over as Tournament Director, but Ezio Valentini, who was the referee at the QT in San Remo.
It was just that he was not present at the GA, so he had to confirm.

In the tournament, Miki took two games from Garrett, while Sergio beat Ron in both games.
Oleksandr is now third, beating Richard 3-1. Also Baghtiyar and Bashim Durdyev join Ron and Matteo Bernini on 14 points, while Miki has 18 and Sergio 16.
Miki now against Matteo (reactiom "wooah"), and Sergio against Oleksandr.

Ron lost the Montrose Cross with both sides.

At the Women, Nadiya now faces Amangul while Erika can catch up against Gultach.
In the last round Nadiya will face Erika.

Seems like these three will get the medals, while he men have two front runners for the Gold and a bunch of bronce medal aspirants.

Yeah quite an event... with Ron lossing quite a bit of the games... right now odds are in favor of the Italians... with three rounds to go all people with 14 are not out yet but unlikely to win it unless Borghetti fails to score against the "lower" performing opponents. I seen this many times as in most two rounds game events it is important how you beat the nominal weaker players.

Ron's 3 move is really not up to par lately it seems. Between Nationals and this tournament he has been dominant against weaker players. However, against the strongest grandmasters he has struggled badly. Losing all 4 games to the Italians and in the Nationals losing 2 to Alex. He is pretty much done at this point. Sergio has a chance, but I think my pick Borghetti, is going to come through.

Thanks to our Vice president Sune Thrane, who set up and posted the direct link to the games above, I was able to update the result page with them as well.
Rounds 5-6 (Woman 3) expected tomorrow.

Also included a link to the daily IMSA bulletin.

To see Ron King in fourth (oops..now third) place in such a late stage of the tournament proves to me (and probably most people) the strength of the WQT players are among the best in the world. I still have high hopes for Dr. Beckwith.

Also, I am still wondering about the last round. Most European tournaments do not repair. Are there no repairs in this tournament?

Michael, they play Swiss system and repair is not a part of classic Swiss system.

So far Ron had more bad days in Lille than Michele and Sergio. Just "good tournament - bad tournament". I won't pay much attention to this and make any serious conclusions. Ron is getting older and his level started "shaking" - good ty / bad ty.

Jim now has more points then Richard. Chances that any of them get medal are not very high, but I hope miracles.

Michele Borghetti is doing extremely well and as-of-now after 7 rounds seems to be most logical winner of QT.
