Post by kim willis »

As everyone knows the time is slipping away from us and soon the WQ will be upon us.I would like to ask if there is players coming to the WQ that they send their players names in soon so we can have rooms for all players.Plus we have a count for food, shuttle passes and times of arrivals.I want everyone traveling from other countries to know that the Hotel will Not take saturday arrivals so you need to make arrivals either on friday or sunday.

Kim and Alan, could yu refresh us please on the costings of staying inVegas.? i understand its at the Plaza hotel, which is 2 miles from the strip.I understand that room rates will be discounted, but by now we need clear details, and yuve probably printed the exact cost in the past, but ive forgotten what it is.As it is, ive been informed that i cant book into the plaza on the saturday before the match,it has to be the friday, which will cost me 100 dollars a night plus,as i really wanted to get there a little early to get over jetlag.Today im buying my tickets, and i really need to know details again. I would appreciate an answer.

WQ room rates

Post by kim willis »

This is some info on the rooms for the WQ.I spoke to Gerry Lopez this morning about the rooms. He believes the rooms will be $39.00 plus tax,and for early arrivals he is working on getting friday and saturday rates less than $100.0 a day to $69.00.This is not in stone yet but he is working on getting all details asap for those players that need to get here on friday instead of sunday being they are coming from other countries.

I hope to have all the info by the end of this week.I will be posting more info when i recieve it.

Yes, that does seem to be an anomaly.
Should it not be entry by country?
As it stands, I understand that any association, however small, can enter two candidates simply by paying an affiliation fee.

We also have in WCDF couple Federations from Barbados and Ireland. This is against FMJD rules which requires only one national body can be present.

A few clarifications....

ACF considered (when deciding who to nominate) 2005 National finish, past qualifier performance (esp. in 2005, the GAYP year), and rating. In this case, we did go pretty far down the list for various reasons. For example, I wrote Hallett, but he declined. Jim Morrison is automatically in by WCDF as defending GAYP WQT champ.

As it stands now (right or wrong?), each federation (not each country) may send two nominations per division, and three nominations if you are the host country. The ICHF happened to nominate Americans. ICHF is still semi-active, as it hosted the recent GAYP world title match.

As I understand it, other associations can nominate players if willing to submit application and $100 annual dues by the deadline (July 1, but Kim would prefer to know nominees ASAP). Associations should be a long-established federation with much history, not just someone creating a new association out of thin air (not likely to be approved).

Josh, you may certainly enter the youth event via ACF or ICHF, who are both looking for qualified nominees under 18.

It is right, because it's written in WCDF Constituion, and it's wrong because breaks a common sense.

Rich, did you ask all 19 people who was ahead of Michael Holmes in USA NAtional GAYP 2005 ?

Josh,

It's "21" for ACF National, but "under 18" for WQT to comply with WCDF statutes.

Alex, I believe the majority were considered or consulted by an ACF Exec member, where relevant. (Foreigners or ICHF nomimees were not considered, Laverty is referee, Lowder passed away, Jim was already in by WCDF). Also, Michael was a respectable 5th in Prague (with only Americans and Durdyevs in front of him), which carried some weight (along with rating), so I would not say all "18" above him were asked, due to this.

Thanks Rich, make sense and sounds reasonable. I think low players motivation is another ACF milestone where we have to work on.

Also, it seems that the same 3-4 players are attending these WQTs. And these players seem to be very active for the ACF...so it's quite obvious the ACF are choosing favorites year after year.

Where is Gene Lindsay, Jerry Childers, Pat Tucci, Hugh Burton, etc etc
