On my part - I am wondering how he plays against SA players. As far as I know - after 2003 when he won last time SA National, he never played again and today he is not a member of SA Federation and has some sort of conflict with it. Here is an information I received recently when tried to validate Lubabalo words that he is "best SA player".john reade wrote:I wonder how he'd get on against Alex?
1. He is not affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa,
2. He has not qualified in terms of play to represent South Africa,
3. He has not qualified to represent South Africa by doing the necessary development,
Here is a list of official SA Champions in the past 4 years
2003 - Lubabalo Kondlo
2004 - Mothusi Moabi
2005 - Thambile Nqezo
2006 - Thabo Mokoena
I also received an email from Mr. Colin Webster, the President of Mind Sports in SA, who said that Lubabalo can't represent SA in any way, including participation in QT etc., and his name cannot be associated with Federation or country.
While reading Lubabalo's letter to Dennis Pawlek I understand now, that since 2003 he stopped playing in his country and started looking sponsors outside, sending emails to ACF, Germany ... and probably other places as well.
Helping personally to Lubabalo to play in Las Vegas was indeed a good thing for Lubabalo, but this action didn't help to promote checkers in SA. There are many other good outstanding players here, who has financial problems to participate in International events.
Maybe future potential sponsors who wants to help and promote checkers in SA should award an "official SA Champions", not personal awarding - this would raise an interest and respect to event
