Looks like Alex has the easier opponents now, as he already scored valuable wins against Watson and Baghtiyar Durdyev.
Shane still has to play Baghtiyar, and maybe Ron King can also spoil the winning ambitions of Alex and Shane, as he can take valuable points away from them if paired aginst one of themm in the final rounds.
So it looks better for Alex, but he still has to win. Might be close until the last round with the reapairing of Alex vs. Shane!

Another story is the Ladies restricted World Championship match, as it is very hard fought, and the battle's fortune changed.
After one win each, Pat Breen took the lead with a win in game 3 and 3 draws followed, but then Amangul won three games in succession, and after a draw in game 10, she is leading by 4 wins to 2 with 4 draws at "half distance", so Pat Breen has to score two more wins in the last 10 games to remain World Champion.
Looks very interesting, and I can't wait to see the games!

Yes, Amangul won with 8 wins to 2 and 8 draws, as the NWDF page reveals (I think 8 to 2 and 6 draws is correct), and thus becomes the first woman to hold both the restricted and unrestricted World Championship.
Looks like Particia Breen had a good start, but then began to suffer as Amangul scored a hattrick, and then the match was decided, as it was obviously too hard to play for wins for Patricia being two games down.

After 14 years, a new queen is crowned, and if we remember that she is only 19, a new era could have begun.

But I also suspect that Patricia Breen might try to win the title back at the next qualification cyle.
Rememeber, she is also just 30 years old, and has much possibilities to improve her play.

Congratulations are in order for Ms. Durdyev as the new restricted champion. I met her in Northern Ireland in 2003, but we never got to play. She will make a fine champion as Ms. Breen has been till this match. I got the honor of playing Ms. Breen in the International Match and was lucky to get one draw from her. We need many more women players in our game and I am proud to know all of them who actively compete.

I didn't remember Ms. Derdyev having taken part in the 2003 International Festival of Draughts, Cookstown, Northern Ireland. I guess my focus was on the King/ Moiseyev match. I find that very interesting and if I'm not mistaken, she was only 15 years old at the time, amazing! Knowing that Ms. Derdyev has her brothers that are world class players (Are there any other sisters and just how many brothers are there that play?) and (I have often given this thought) knowing, Ms. Breen has her sisters who are also world class players, I take note that when a player is surrounded by other good players they seem to push and feed off of one another which in turn seems to bring them all up to a higher level of play. Don't you agree?

Well this is a day to remember for sure.

Was there a World Champions Dance with Amangul ?

Joking aside:
The Champ showed that he is still at his best, and left his rivals behind.
(note the Champ gave the right answer after the cancelled match in Barbados)
Ron King seems to have specialized in handicap starts this year, and should better forget 2007 and restart in 2008 (without handicaps).

Maybe he needs a private plane...

Shane showed his supremecy over the other irish players, and Tom Watson and Baghtiyar Durdyev had a result close to their reputation, but unfortunately not more this time.
I hope that this year's game will not be forgotten like the games of the previous years, and that we can see them published, as this was maybe the strongest event in 2007, though the US nationals and the WCDF Qualifiuer were also very strong.

The WCDF will be looking for bids for the 2008 GAYP World Title Match between Champion Ron King and challenger Lubabalo Kondlo of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Not much has been heard about the SA players till Mr. Kondlo this past Summer won the ACF Masters and then won the WQ. This match should bring a breath of fresh air into our game. The WCDF will be looking for bidders, think about it

I've got 30 points, and then it was 4 ways tie with 24 points:

4. T. Watson
5. R. King

I won 8 rounds with 3 points, 1 round with 4 points, and one drawn round against Shane. In last round I was lucky to get a revenge and won a round against Shane.
