After 2 rounds John Webster and Richard Beckwith took a lead with 7 points.

John Webster beat in one game V. Habgood, and R. Beckwith won one game against JR Smith.

Me and Tim Laverty drew the round by winning each one game and tying for 3-4 place with 6 points.

Maybe Vic or JR will post the rest of results after 2nd round.

Funny thing is, when the WCDF ratings were delayed the critics were clamouring for their publication.
Now that they have arrived, they want to shoot the messenger.says Liam::

Well Liam you will have to include me as one of the critics of this whole amateurish escapade in re to the ratings and to the the whole scenario and the over run time scale to which they were produced, whatever ones misgiving about the resultant order... Im sure there is a human element as to why this occured and and i can sympathise with that. But to be honest it just not good enough and makes the whole aspect look a total shambles.I dont want to be too critical as im sure there are peoples feeling involved but this cant go on as it has done.People give their time voluntarely and try to do their best, and sometimes we have to know our limitations and be honest and say im sorry but i dont have the time ,someone else may take the load ,that would be the right thing to do.

As you know i give quite alot of my time to running Tys, encouraging sponsorship spreading the "gospel" of draughts ,trying to access finance from wherever i can get it from council or state bodies, and promoting players where i can and sometimes at my own expense and in my own way ,iknow the drain on ones time this takes.I would be the last one to criticise because i know what in entails to do this, but at the same time im not afraid to say what i think, and the bottom line is whatever is going wrong in the WCDF some one needs to show leadership as there is none at this moment.

No one wants to shoot the messenger but perhaps the messenger has taken on to much.

After 3 rounds:

Beckwith - 10
Moiseyev, Laverty - 9
Webster, Millhone - 8
Ross, Williamson - 7
Stanley T, Shultz, Rayevsky, Habgood - 6
Smith - 5,
Stanley B - 3
Andrews, Martin - 2
Garvey - 0

The tournament intrigue is growing ! In the next round I should play with R. Beckwith, T. Laverty plays with Alan Millhone, and John Webster plays with Mr. Williamson.

More later ...

After 4 rounds:

T. Laverty - 13
A. Moiseyev - 12
R. Beckwith, J. Webster - 11
V. Habgood, M. Ross - 10
A. Millhone, A. Raevsky, T. Williamson - 8
J. Smith, T. Stanley - 7
J. Andrews, K. Shultz, J. Martin - 6
B. Stanley - 3
M. garvey - 0

In the 4th round Tim Laverty won both games against A. Millhone and took a lead. I won one game against R. Beckwith, and John Webster 've got 3 points with Mr. Williamson. Vic Habgood won both games against K. Shultz and now is trailing leading group

There are only 3 rounds left, but situation is unclear. Today in the morning having man up I failed two for 3 shot giving my opponent, Ken Shultz a draw. WOW !

Tomorrow morning I believe Tim Laverty should play with Richard Beckwith, and I will play with John Webster.

Stay on for more news !

this is after the 5th round. today we decided to do all three rounds today and tonight that way people can check out of hotel early and head home if desired. it has been an interesting tournament so far. 11 man ballot has provided some unique positions and very few transpositions to actual known published play.
This round coming up features Webster vs Laverty, Millhone vs Beckwith, Moiseyev vs Habgood, and Ross vs Rayevskyy. So with the field being so close in pts some interesting games should come about.

Millhone 12pts
Ross 12pts
Rayevskyy 11pts
Stanley, Teal 11pts
Shultz 9pts
Williamson 9pts
Andrews 7pts

Congratulations to our first ever 11-man ballot national tournament champion Tim Laverty! His play was brilliant including going 1-1-2 with Alex Moiseyev. The competion was fierce and it was tight throughout the tournament. No one was ever safe and some surprises in the games, especially in the last round.Teal Stanley got a win from both sides against Dr Webster and Mike Ross one win and a draw against Beckwith! We all had a great time and we look forward to having this event again sometime. The final results are as follows with the order of finish:

Tim Laverty 20pts
Alex Moiseyev 19pts
Mike Ross 19pts
Teal Stanley 19pts
Richard Beckwith 17pts
Victor Habgood 16pts
Ted Williamson 15pts
John Webster 14pts
Alan Millhone 14pts
Ken Shultz 13pts
Don Andrews 11pts
JR Smith 12pts
Anatoly Rayevskyy 11pts
James Martin 11pts
Bill Stanley 10 pts
Mike Garvey 0 pts

My hot congratulations to Tim ! He played brilliantly and is well deserved for the 1st 11 man Ballot National Champion Title. I played like sock and should be very lucky with 2nd place in Honor Points.

Me and Tim have preliminaty agreement to play a World Title Match some time this year over a Holliday - either Memorial Day, or 4th of July. We also are looking for reasonable miserable donations to cover expances. It will be an icon on ACF Store site regards this match.

It was a great event and I am completely satisfy with my score, but not quality of games

Sinecerely,

Alex Moiseyev

to keep the record straight as far as i know this was the 2nd national 11-man ballot tourney. in november 1968 one was held in philadelphia,pa and the top five were:1.fuller-$1,000 2.grover-$500 3.lowder-$300 4.long-$150 5.sprangle-$150.keep in mine that with 11-man ballot the need for checker book would decline also the need to burn the midnight oil to study a game.it would benefit the true crossbord player as with over 3,000 openings in the ballot it is practically beyond analysis.since i havn't master the orginal 137 three-move openings let along the new ones it would be to my advantage-but anyone who has spent a lot of time studying the game might not like it.
