IL State 2010

Post by Alex_Moiseyev »

I regret to say that due to some circumstancies along with family and job responsibilities, I can't make it this year ... perhaps first time in decade :roll: I will try to compensate it by attending IL 101 in the fall.

My plans to play in the West TN Strawberry Festival in May are unchanged - I certainly will be there ... 99.99% :lol:

Respectfully,

AM

I saw my son make some incredible moves. He doesnt write down his games so I dont have any of his to show but I hopefully some of his opponents can post 1 or 2 of them. If not, maybe just some of the positions.

Here is my first of two games that I lost.

[Event "2010 IL 11-16 21-17 9-14"]
[Date ""]
[Black "Frank Davis"]
[White "Michael Holmes"]
[Result "1-0"]
1. 11-16 21-17 2. 9-14 25-21 3. 16-20 17-13 4. 8-11 22-18 5. 4-8 18x9 6. 5x14 29-25 7.
11-15 25-22 8. 8-11 22-17 9. 11-16 23-19 10. 16x23 27x9 11. 20x27 32x23 12. 15-19
{bad. 1-5 draws} 23x16 13. 12x19 31-27 {bad 17-14 probably wins.} 1-0

Why ???

When couple years ago my family got our puppy from shelter, we took few classes for "dog training". Professional teachers told us that whatever puppy learns in first several months is crucial and becomes an unconditioned reflex to the rest of life.

My first few lessons in Russian checkers school when I was 7 years old were rules of games and notation. Since then I always record ALL my games - either on official scoresheet or notebook.

Unfortunately Anglo-American checkers community doesn't treat text of games and recording with necessary respect and often before turning games to referee I copy them to my notebook. Makes alot of sense & secured and saved a tons of games.

My unconditioned reflex :lol: force me to write moves even when I don't have enough time on clocks :roll: Ron King realized this long time ago and often used it against me in our matches.

For me to write a move is just a part of standard procedure which I've done for years:

1) make a move on the board;
2) push clocks (if applicable ha-ha);
3) write move down;

WCDF games rules require to write move before making it on board, but this is absolute absurd with no sense because after I write move, I can change my mind many times before I make it !

BTW. i also should say that making move and pushing clocks must be done by the same hand.

I always do it by right hands - make move and then push clocks. What the problem ? You can't do it at the same time and making a move must be done first.

In 2007 in Ireland It was an incident during A. Durdyeva vs P. Breen match when Patricia tried to use both hands and Amangul protested. Referee John Reade called me as translator.

Unfortunately WCDF rules had another "hole" and didn't mention anything about this at the time they played match.

Its important that young Holmes learn to write down the moves as a matter of fact,as the old addage goes "begin as you mean to go on".
Numbered boards would make this process very easy for young players like him.
In fact not writing them down means he doesnt know what he played and he cant fix any problems later,so i would appeal to him and his father to encourage him in this direction as it also shows a "professional approach".
Always read "Cannings Compilation 2nd Edition" every day.
