Illinois 2010 after 4 rounds

Post by waynegober »

Hi Checkerists,

I will fill in for ACF Scribe-in-Chief "John Acker" and post the standings after 4 rounds.

Larry Keen is leading the Master division with 12 poinst. He won round 4 from Holmes (game and a draw)

Gayle Helterbrand is in the lead in Class B with 13 points. The 1/0 players only think they invented speed checkers.
Gayle "speedy" Helterbrand use to skin me between rounds at many a tourny on lightning fast games lol.

tied points are in alphabetical order I think, " we okies are never 100% sure)

K Christiah 9
F. Davis 9
R. Dionisio 8
Gary Ellison 8
M. Holmes 8
A. Millhone 8

J Grisley 7
B. Wethington 6

Majors

Wayne, many thanks for postings and sorry for not having a chance to play this year in IL State. Larry Keen used to be a National Champ in 2002 and this is certainly means something  However I won't be surprise at all if Michael comes back.

I wish everyone good luck and best should win it !

BTW. With your 10 points trailing a leader, you are not too far from heaven, man

Alex,

[quoteyou are not too far from heaven, man ][/quote]

Will be matched with Larry this morning no doubt and am not sure if that is heaven or the other place

any how.... You are missed and many were asking "Is Alex her?"

Speaking of Michael ... he will make comeback I have no doubt. Only game I have lost is to Michael on a man down cook I had discovered a few months ago. To my shock, Mike already knew my stuff and had discovered it also independently and used it against Dr. Beckwith and you in important play. ( I lost a game on the one game I felt I had a chance to score with hehe) Also I have been very lucky.... 1st round I was in loss on both games yet wiggled and managed to get a win and draw...

Another note:

Michael is already "Top winner" in the tournament in my estimation on a very important level.
He brought his son Alex and also another young man who I think is a neighbor. Now Michael is playing and also
watching both these younuns. I know from experience how that can distract. Michael wouldn't post this but I will, he
lost a game by a shot that was most likely due to parental distraction. He lost the game but won the war...... young Alex and
his friend are worth more than all the checker games in the world. I am also a FOA "fan of Alex" both of em.... lol

I will post final standings as soon as possible but may be tommorrow as I have to drive 10 hrs after finish of tournament.

Your friend,
Wayne

Concerning Michael lost on shot ... I had contact with local Russian mafia in Marion and here is a photo they sent me regarding this game (they have cameras everywhere and are watching each US state very close).

It seems like Larry has a good position anyway. Analysing their poses tells us that more likely it is a Michael move. Shot may happened after 10-14 31-26 2-7? 30-25* etc ... or 8-11 31-26 11-15 19-16 12x19 23x16 2-7? 30-25 etc ... True ? if necessary I can order more detail picture or even video from Russian mafia but this will be more expansive.

alex,

quick note

Mafia has wrong game and opponent for Mike shot. lol
and my cook which was not from hybrid pioneer variation.
more later............

I wish I had searched archives and found game which Holmes had with both Alex and Beckwith before trying it.... I was not properly prepared to use it as result proved but also afraid of Mikes superior knowledge of pioneer lines so..........

Michael, I think if Alex just spend an extra 10-30 seconds on every move  - he must be OK for Majors in National. Good job and well done by Alex in Marion.

Congratulations to Larry Keen by winning an event in good margin. Who is State Champ this year ???

A very nice tournament and well run by the Gene and Gary . Thanks Guys. Sunday afternoon Don West dropped by. Saturday committments kept him from playing. It was good to see him..... may have been 10 years since I had seen Don.

Frank Davis won best joke told in my opinion.....

It may be old but I don' think I had heard it before.

"Man been drinking and stumbles into graveyard and falls into an open grave. He tries but can't get out. So..... he just goes to the back of the grave and sits down. Sure enough, another fellow happens by and he too falls into the same hole. He quickly tries without success to get out of the grave. Fellow sitting in the dark shadows says 'fellar you can't get out of here'
BUT HE DID

Had a good visit or two with ACF Prez, Alan Millhone. We got off on the wrong foot back a few years ago and I sure think I had the wrong impression. I have no doubt he wants the very best for ACF. He told me, "We all got to pull together" and I think that is true for sure. Maybe someone out there is sittin' in the shadow and has the right words to help us all jump out of the hole???

Congrats to Larry Keen .... got to visit a little and better aquainted with this fine man......

Congrats to Flavius Burgess who I didn't get to visit enough with... got to correct that next time and visit more

young Alex keeps listening to his dad and gaining playing knowledge and just as important maybe "tournament knowledge"
YA Alex !!!!

Enjoyed the "dynamic duo" ,Ken and Bobby, very much. Those two "rascals" are a lot of fun.....

my score "lucky score" 5-3-6 Man if coulda won one more and not lost 3 I woulda shoulda coulda lol :)

Very fine job of reporting IL tourney by Wayne Gober. He should get a tip of the hat from all checker players for the outstanding job he did. NEIL WENBERG
