2013 Ohio State Open

Post by Chexhero »

This tournament will start on the weekend of September 7th, taking place on Saturday and Sunday. With ridiculously cheap room rates (39 a night plus tax) and a very low admission fee ($10) this may be a tournament you don't want to miss and could be very worth it. If you are looking for a challenge, it is without a doubt one of the hardest tournaments, featuring 3 of the top players in the world. I will be there this year and LaVerne Wray is also considering going, so it already should be getting a better turnout than last year. For those looking to improve their game and be challenged by some of the game's best, this is the tournament for you!

I appreciate everyone's update so far. Looks to be a tough tournament. Joe LoConti called me yesterday and will be there. "B" players are most welcome too.

Hmmm, two Alexes in one event. I already played with Alex H. couple times in the past. Every time it's getting harder and harder :D and every time I think - "I have to win, it could be my last chance to do it !" :D

John, if Michael will be there, it is absolutely crucial and important for you to come :D It is quite obvious that people online communications are less productive than face-to-face contact. And many times we type in Internet something we would never say in private conversation to real person.

I think I've played <10 games of checkers in the past 9 months, but I may attend this for something to do.

Alex Moiseyev won one game today (off Cowie) and drew the rest, but it was enough to win the tournament and repeat as Ohio Champ.
Congrats to Mr. Alex!

Final Standings:

Alex Moiseyev (OH) 18
Michael Holmes (KY) 17
Joe Moore (PA) 17
Louis Cowie (OH) 16
Rich Beckwith (OH) 16
Clint Olsen (Can.) 16
Alex Holmes (IN) 15
Laverne Wray (PA) 13
Mark Sokolovsky (OH) 12
Alan Millhone (OH) 11
Steve Holliday (OH) 9
Joe LoConti (OH) 8

Prize fund was $610, with most of the donations from Joe LoConti.

Most amusing game was Mark Sokolovsky catching Alan Millhone in a 2-man-down win with single corner block. I’ll look into annotating this game for the future.
