New Checker Tournament

Post by Lindus Edwards »

Tony Boyle granted me permission to make the following new checker tournament known. Tony has worked hard over the years in his attempt to promote the game and obtain sponsorship. It is hoped that he will have the required number of players for this event. Well done Tony.

Lindus Edwards.

Winchester Draughts Tournament.
Castle Chess have a sponsor who wishes to promote a draughts tournament alongside a chess congress at Winchester over the weekend 9/10 January 2016. If successful there will be sponsorship for 3 years. The sponsor hopes for both 3-Move and GAYP events. It is hoped that prize money of £150, £75, £50 will be available for the top 3 finishers. I hope that any players available that weekend can support this event. Castle Chess and Tony Corfe are to be thanked for supporting draughts in this way. The entry fee will be £35 which will include a banquet after the event. To make this event viable we need 12 to 16 players I would say. I will of course mention this at the Welsh Open and the Qualifying Tournament at Knighton in September. It is hoped that maybe some foreign players at the Qualifying Tournament might be interested in participating. Please let me know what you think.
Tony Boyle, 15 August 2015.

That would be great Kent. I will not play in the event as my standard, such as it ever was, is very poor to say the least these days. I will attend however and watch the play.

I am also looking forward to spectating at the masters event on Saturday. It is sincerely hoped that this event will be supported well as the venue is first rate along with the prizes.
