2019 Canadian Championship Match

Post by clintolsen »

Lorne Wells and I will battle once again for the Canadian Championship at my home in Kitchener from Monday, August 5th to Friday, August 9th. The match will consist of 20 games, 4 games per day. Ken Shoesmith from Hamilton will return as referee. Both players will again contribute $500 to the match fund which will be split 60/40 between the winner and runner-up.

Contributions to the match fund would be much appreciated. Anyone contributing $10+ will receive a copy of the games.

Contributions (cheques/money orders) should be made out to Ken Shoesmith:
7 Moonglow Place
Dundas, Ontario
Canada L9H 3R6

If you do send a donation, please send an email to Ken (kshoesmith at cogeco dot ca) so he can confirm receiving it.

Spectators are welcome - If you are interested in attending this match as a spectator, PM me here or email me (clintmolsen at gmail dot com) and I will provide you with my address.

Hi, Clint !

It's glad to see that warrior spirit is still there! Good luck to both of you boys. Not sure I can visit it this time - have vacation trip to NYC around this time of year.

BTW. What happened with my annotations to your previous match with Lorne, which I sent to you ? I haven't seen any publications or references. Anyway - my annotations now are property of Canadian Checkers Association and you are welcome to use them in any way you want.

Considering "close contest" as difference in points no more than 2 games up, I have a bet $5 that score will be higher than this. … In other words I just want to say that it won't be a close contest.

In my opinion winner at the end will be more than 4 points up.

Any takers ?

It is also very important to say that this time score and match scenario looks much better and more promising for Lorne. If their previous match was more likely as "one-side" match, this time it is complete different story! Even without having text of games - I can see a lot of progress and improvement for Lorne and can predict that their next match will be really a "close match".

Game, Opening, Red / White, Result
13, 9-13, 24-20, 10-15, Olsen / Wells, Draw
14, 9-13, 24-20, 10-15, Wells / Olsen, Draw
15, 10-14, 24-20, 7-10, Wells / Olsen, White Wins
16, 10-14, 24-20, 7-10, Olsen / Wells, Draw

After day 4, the score is 20-12 for Olsen (6W, 2L, 8D). As there are only 4 games remaining and no way for Wells to get 21 points Olsen defends his title. Thank you to Ken Shoesmith who again acted as referee. We are both looking forward to the next match.
