This tournament is also posted under calendar on http://www.nccheckers.org the dates: June 16th - 18th , 2006 the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before Nationals. This will be a rich checker purse!

Just spoke on phone minutes ago with Mr. Burton. I had informed him, that I am very seriously consider to attend the Tennessee Strawberry Festival this year. He was very excited and said that this may help him and directors to raise additional funds and he will include this information in his furter announcements.

Then he told me, that I can take my buddy with me. I was curious, because all ACF members are my buddies , in USA and oversea, and he specified - ACF President !

I decided to extend his offer and invite all of you come here. Lets make it an excited event which everone enjoy.

I just received approval from the Army to also go to this tournament. I attended the Strawberry Festival Tournament last year and I was very impressed. Although I came in third place (Keen was first and Morrison was second) I was the only person in the tournament that did not lose a round.

I also wanted to mention that I still won a lot of money even though I came in third. My son won $40 plus two free meals. I won an electric grinder that I sold to Jim. It was truely an AWESOME tournament!

I am really looking forward to this tournament!

I just got off the phone with Hugh. He has confirmed that there will be 2,000 in prize money plus the entry fees. He also said that it took extra work to get that and the food because of the storms that hit the area recently.

On a side note, he is trying to get moiseyev's picture in the paper by Wednesday so it will print Thursday with a nice write-up. If you have a picture you can send it to him. You can call and talk to him too-his number is 731-427-5352.

I am excited about this tournament as there will be many top players there and a prize fund good enough to cover expenses if you place in the top 5.

There are three hotels listed on the ACF's webpage for this tourney. Has anyone booked their stay at a certain one and why? does it have an inside pool, nice staff?, etc.

Larry Keen played moiseyev three different rounds with two of them drawn.
Clayton Nash lost both games against Keen and drew both of the rounds he had to play me. Nash had two draws with Joe Tucker the first time he played him and two draws with Dr. Shuffett. However, he won 4 points from Joe Tucker the second time he played him.
I was lucky to win a game from Keen and draw a game with him. I won a round from Dr. Shuffett with 3 points but the second time I played him we won a game a piece.

7 rounds and only 6 masters.
Round Robin for five rounds and then high point vs. high point the last two rounds for the masters.

Not much competetion this time. I won one game against everyone in Robin Round. This was enough to win a tournament. Joe Tucker lost game because of weak play, Dr. Shuffett, Larry Keen and Clayton Nash lost their games due to the lack of published play knowedlges, Michael Holmes lost his game due to the lack of crossboard abilities.

I don't have too much to add to Michael comments and variations. The program did a great job

On my part I can say, that I was thinking seriously in this game (more than 10 minutes) two times. See diagrams #1 and #2. I think each position arised at immportant moment in the game, when the price of move is critical and game can turn in one or other directions.

It is a sign of master to recognize properly - when you need to spend more than just a few minutes

When I spent time on position #1 my calculations ended somewhere around position #2 (thats why I needed to look one more time). When I calculated position #2 - I saw, that I have a serious advantage after 20-16 everywhere, but I didn't see a clear win. If Michael would play it correctly, I may need to spend one more time 10-15 minutes to calculate things to the end.
