Sounds like a great event. I appreciate the schedule being announced well in advance so that players can choose which events to attend and make travel plans.

Has a decision been made about the format (GAYP vs. 3-move) and the time allotted per game for the blitz tournament? If I can get away a day earlier I might be interested in participating.

In general, I hope that we have enough clocks for these events and for all divisions in the future. The national tournament was pleasant last year because all divisions used clocks. Alex Holmes did an excellent job as referee, and I don't remember a single dispute about time or someone playing too slowly.

I think 40 minutes per player per game with a 5-second increment is ideal for the main event. I know some Master players prefer to have the time pooled for both games. What doesn't work well is the 15-second increment because games can extend far beyond the time allotted for the round. For example, in Branson I was put on a minute per move at the end of my second game in a round, even though I had 35 minutes remaining on my clock. My opponent, who was playing fairly within the rules, was playing on increment with less than a minute remaining and our game went beyond the time for the round.
