16 points with one round left today....Moiseyev and Chappell tied for first. Holmes and Lindsay tied for third with 12 points and Chappell and Moiseyev still have to play tonight. Dr Shuffett has 9 points and Millhone and Joan Caws have five points. Everyone has to get a 3 point bye and I have not had mine yet and Moiseyev has not had his yet. Moiseyev did win one game against me.

Majors:
Shultz, Wolllum have 13 WIlson. Stokes and A. Mayes have 12. Ian Caws, Harvell have 11. Askins has 9. and S. Mays has 7. My son has zero points ( he is only 7).

I was lucky to win one game in round 6 against Jonathon having a strong site of opening 9-14 22-18 11-16. This was the only round (and game) which Jonathon lost and it decided a winner of event.

I finished with 24 points, Jonathon Chappel - 22 points and he is a new KY State Champ. Gene Lindsay finished third with 21 points and Michael Holmes finshed 4th with 18 points.

Jonathon beat Gene Lindsay and Michael Holmes and well preserved for the second place and State Champion Title. I was really impressed his play in this event and predict him very bright checkers career.

We had two very special welcome guests - Mr. & Mrs Caws from England. Joan demonstrated much stronger fighting skills and spirit and attended Masters Section though it wasn't an easy trip. Ian did pretty well in "B" Division, but I don't have an exact results.

The youngest player - Alex Holmes, 7 years, oldest - Mr. Earl Harvell

Refreshments and hot lunch were wonderful.

It was one "case" only during the tournament. Rules required players to play 10 seconds per move when round time is over. This happened ... in first round among me and Gene Lindsay and I won blitz. Gene was very upset and wanted to leave the tournament, and finally I was agreed with draw.

Points and rating never played a major role for me and never replace firends.

I sold 4 regular copies of SIXTH and one bonus edition for Mr. & Mrs. Caws.

Many thanks to directors and all attendants. It was very nice firendly event, though I played some interesting games.

looks like some tuff competiton there.I wish i could have made it.I would have loved to have met Joan.And you right Jon being as young as he is should someday be a great champion.

Been home a little while and now unpacked and catching up on emails. I notice a nice interview now posted on Bob Newell's excellent MAVEN

I had a great time at Ky. Tournament, thought I lost my share of games. Below I list results in both groups:

I give 7 year old Alex Holmes a lot of credit for coming and playing. He got pretty discouraged losing game after game, but he hung in there. I told him I do the same thing, but to play better and to better understand the deep beauty of Checkers you have to play the best players you can find. Also you never have to apologize when beaten by a superior player. I have no reputation to protect and have no problem being an average player. It was great to have Mr. and Mrs. Ian Caws as entrants at the tournament. Mr. Leon Creek runs a fine tournament and thanks to Mr. Don Brattin for helping him in referee duties. Also thanks to Mrs. Brattin for providing excellent food for the players to consume while the tournament progressed. The LaQuinta is an excellent hotel to host the tournament and the playing room is excellent as well. I had a great time and nice to see many familiar faces this past week-end.

Congratulations to Alex Moiseyev, for winning the ty, and to Jon Chappell for finishing a close second and for gaing the Ky ty Championship.

If I am right, Jon now holds both the Kentucky tournament and match play titles, although he had no weak opposition to catch both titles.

Thanks everyone, I was very lucky.

About Alex being "lucky" to beat me in the 6th round. The game he beat me on was in his book "Sixth" pg 51, diagram 57, for those of you who have a copy. After I lost Alex opened his book, showed me the diagram and said, "Its only 45 dollars." He not only got the win, but also made a sell lol. Anyway winning with a well prepared line is not luck.

Ingo, the players at this tournament were plenty mean enough opposition for a player like me. I was fortunate to finish that well, and it could have very easily been the other way around. Mike has scored far more wins against me then I have against him, and he has helped me very much over the past couple years.
