Mobile opening generator
I know JR's site has tools to generate 3-move and 11-man ballot openings. My question: if that functionality were ported to Android/iOS, could the app generate images of the board after the balloted moves on the fly, or would it need to store graphics of each possible board position? There is a Chess960 opening generator available for Android, but I am not sure how it handles the graphics.

Re: Mobile opening generator
Update: I emailed the app programmer, and he confirmed that each position has a separate pre-made graphic. Evidently there is an established list of Chess960 positions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess960_numbering_scheme. It looks like the app uses black-and-white PNG files, which are fairly compact.

I could make a tournament app that could generate openings (with pictures) and keep score for typical tournaments (swiss, round robin, etc..) if there was an appetite for such a thing

Well, a program like that would be a great idea.vhabgood wrote:I could make a tournament app that could generate openings (with pictures) and keep score for typical tournaments (swiss, round robin, etc..) if there was an appetite for such a thing
i am still waiting for a pairing program that also ballots the 3-move openings to the pairings automatically.
That would be a great feature.
