Gemini 1 line

Post by Ed Gilbert »

1. 10-14 22-17 2. 11-16 17x10 3. 6x15 23-18 4. 15x22 25x18 5. 16-20

I have expanded this Gemini 1 line using the 10-piece kingsrow, and added the new play to the book10 opening book that can be downloaded from the kingsrow web site. This 16-20 defense is a draw, but it has been misplayed in many mail play games. I did a search of a large database of games and found 11 games where white followed with 24-19, and in 10 of those games red replied with a losing move (8-11). 7-10 is the only move shown to draw there.

Hi, Tommy and Ed !

This move, 21-17, has very logical strategic explanation. White immediately tries to occupy very important square - 13, which minimize mobility (freedom) of red rigth flank. Along with white man on 19 - this is "keeling tandem", which puts red position in grave.

It is clear now, why red should play 7-10 instead 8-11 - to stop 21-17!

It is impossible for human to calculate anything in this position , but if you understand strategy, you would play 21-17 without much thinking.
