On this opening 9-13 22-18, 10-14 18-9, 5-14 26-22, 7-10? (kingsrow gives this as a loss, but the ACF site gives this as the main line of deffence instead of 6-9) it continues 22-17, 13-22 25-9, 6-13 29-25, 11-15 25-22, 8-11 23-19? (thats what kingsrow gives, but the play on the ACF site says 24-19)
Is the 7-10 defence worth studying as a deffence?
9-13, 22-18, 10-14
9-13, 22-18, 10-14

KingsRow also gives 23-18 as the winning attack at move 8. J_D_C_, is your message with 23-19 a typo?

Some "trouble lovers"
like Lowder and myself (and few in the past) played this occasionly under old 144 deck:
9-14 22-18 10-15 18-9 5-14 26-22 7-10? 22-18 the same !
Alex

9-14 22-18 10-15 18-9 5-14 26-22 7-10? 22-18 the same !
Alex
I am playing checkers, not chess.

Hello JDC,
The mail players knew that 7-10 lost in the nineties. In 2001 World Mail Qualifying championship 7-10 was played by Tommy Canning against me and the game went like this: 9-13 2218 1014 18-9 5-14 2622 7-10(loses) 2217 1322 25-9 6-13 2925
1115 2522 8-11 2318 1216 2723 1620 2419 1524 2819 2024 3026 3-7 1814
1017 2114 1-6 14-9 4-8 9-5 White Wins Tom Canning-Mac Banks
In the same tourney, I used the correct 6-9 defense against Nigel Proffitt and drew as such: 9-13 2218 1014 18-9 5-14 2622 6-9* 2218 7-10 2522 1-5 2925 3-7 2419
1115 1811 8-24 2819 1417 2114 1026 3122 7-10 2318 9-14 18-9 5-14
Drawn Mac Banks-Nigel Proffitt 2001 World Qual. Mail tourney
If I am playing this opening crossboard instead of by mail play I would use the 25-22 attack instead: Here is a draw by Kingsrow playing red against Alex on my ladder.
913 2218 1014 18-9 5-14 2522 1115 3025 6-9 2218 1522 2610 7-14
2522 2-7 2925 8-11 2218 7-10 2419 1317 1915 1026 31-6 1423
2718 1-10 1814 1017 2114 1216 1410 4-8 10-6 1620 6-1 8-12
1-6 1116 6-10 Drawn Kingsrow-Alex. Moiseyev Banks Master Ladder
JDC, I have much more play on this opening than what is shown in publish play so if you have any questions, please email me at mbanks36@hotmail.com and I will gladly show you any play you are interested in.

To clarify your original comment...I assume you are referring to the Cayton Compilation (under Classroom menu) when you say this site shows 7-10 as sound. The Cayton Compilation is several years old and is known now to contain a few flaws, certainly including the one you mentioned. Then again, most opening checker books usually do reveal flaws over time.
