Has anyone played through this game between Hugh Burton and Lloyd Taylor (provided by Jim Loy)...from the 1976 3-Move National....a crisp, clean game...seems like it is probably a GAYP trunk game, (I have not researched it, but makes me want to look up the annotations, just to see if it was a "rest" game between these two )...every move seems "natural".....

Jay, I wonder about that myself, is it GAYP or 3-move? Or is it GAYP or 2-move, or 1-move, or an agreed upon book opening? That, of course, depends on how far back the game goes! I did play through this week's game, and then flipped it to play again. The weekly random games are remarkable! And the games are random! Jay, when did 3-move change from 137 to 144 openings? --George Hay

The complete history of the 3-Move Ballot Deck, its inception, alterations, and growth.......sounds like a great research project !! There was an article published on this somewhere...but I believe it was many years ago, and could not represent the complete up-to-date history,.....just cannot remember where at the moment.

This is mostly Jim Loy's work. All I did was load the games he's typed into a database (10k+ games) and spit one out each week.
This particular game is 3-move mostly from the database of games we currently have.
If you look at about 13 moves in and go to Tools->Find Position, the search returns about 12 3-Move games that have been to this position before (mostly older tournaments) and only 1 GAYP game.
After the next move (32-28) this game is the only one in the database for that position. 30-26 is the most common reply.
...makes me wonder if 32-28 is a bad move?

Yeah I've done a poor job of outlining the features of my viewer... mostly because I have so many more features in my head which haven't made it into the code yet and I keep telling myself I'd rather wait until a few more are in before I document them all.
The find position is easily my favorite though because it gives the run-up on the other games as well as the next 5 moves of the other games. I do wish I could find a way to let you select multiple and simultaneously show the games hand in hand though...
Or at least let you build up a queue of games and go back and forth between them.

Jay and Jason, from the above position, Martin Fierz's Cake plays 32-28 and will play the game against itself to a draw on "Exact, 10 Seconds." The notation is even "book move 32-28." --Geoge Hay

The 32-28 move was analyzed in Robertson's Guide, beginning at p.2 v.12. And it was played a few times in the 1890's.
The above game was mostly published play. At the 6th to last move (26-23), 26-22 was played to a draw in H. Henderson - G. Bonar, 1898 Scottish Ty. A few of the earlier moves were played in a different order. Seven moves before that (13-17), annotator P. Davis (in the ACFB) said this: "Makes an easy draw, and varies from 14-17 21-14 6-10 15-6 1-17 23-18 17-21 18-14 (or 18-15 in Robertson's) 21-25 14-9 8-11 22-17 etc., a draw in {W. Ryan's} Championship Checkers."
