I was going through Oldbury's ency and came across the following position, to be found on page 293 : Black to play

As Oldbury states, 10-15 clearance is an easy draw. However Barker set up a trap by giving the impression of going into a trap himself : 30-26, 8-11 and Yates is wanting Barker to attack by 26-22 as then follows 24-19 22x29, and 19-15 shot would win. However after Yates' 8-11 came the Unexpected 10-15 17x10 18-14 shot to 29 Black won!!
Oldbury mentions that the critics announced that Yates should have went for the trap by playing 24-19 first, after which a forced win is on anyway : Oldbury disagrees with them and gives 26-23 8-12 23x16 12x19 to draw, and sends us to a diagram (a game he had against Lowder) on page 174 in his Ency in which this position could have arose. Again, in his footnotes he notes the position as a draw.

White to play : 16-19 18-15 19-23 15-18 23-27 (and Oldbury says that white is on the wrong foot after 1-5 (he does show a way for black to lose : not 18-15, 25-22, 15-19, 27-31, 19-15, 31-26, 15-19, 26-30, 19-15, 30-25, 1-5, 25-30, 15-19, 30-26, 19-15, 26-23, White win)
I show however that after his 1-5 he completely misses 25-22!! 18x25 27-23 25-22 23-19 22-18 7-11 18-22 19-15 10x19 17x1 9-14 11-15 19-24 15-10 22-17 1-6 White wins
