For four and one-half years now, Ed Atkinson, as a guest editor, has been publishing excellent Students' Pages in the ACF Bulletin.
Whatever your playing level, if you have not been responding to his bi-monthly invitation to sight solve some of a dozen examples, you have been missing a treat. You start with a beginners' problem, and gradually face increasingly difficult and increasingly beautiful gems. If you can perchance solve them all, you can be confident that you are well above average and knocking at the door of the masters.
In this month's issue(April), his Numbers 4 and 10 stumped me. How about you?
And even better is Ed's selection of problems on related themes. This gives you a better understanding of each idea.
Lastly, he consistently gives proper credit for each setting, including many of his own unique arrangements. He has been composing them, off and on, for more than 65 years.
I call him Dr. Strangemoves, after one of his early contest problems, and I think his contributions to the game are underappreciated. How about you?
