Use of not allowing guest, if all fantasy users r accepted

Post by Ingo_Zachos »

Dear Jason,

U choose not to accept "guest" postings, which is all right, but them you have to delete members that don't use their clear names as well, because you can simply subscribe with a phantasy name and continue the habit of anonymous posting nad offending!

Look at the last 10 registered users and u see what I mean ;-)

Proposal:
Either accept "guests" or to "check" the list and a confirmation would be required to see if the given email address is valid.

Hello Ingo:

Without asking Jason first I will tell you my feelings on registration.

From the inception of the ACF Forum I wanted the use of full names (first and last). I do not approve of nor like elusive/vague registration and am publicly saying so. I want to know who I am addressing 100% of the time.

How about a 'show of hands' after my posting to see what the other registered users say on this topic? You can privately email me if you like and names will not be mentioned to those who reply to me.

Hi Alan,

My preference is for full names.

Of course i would prefer full names.
Realistically this presents a challenge though.
In order to make sure that users sign up with their own name we will need some sort of verification. This also means there would have to be a person(s) dedicated to checking the verification and 'permitting' the user to access the site.

While i don't have a problem setting that up, i personally do not want to be responsible for following through with the verification/permissions.

The delayed process (which will be at least several minutes, and most likely on the order of an hour or more) of registration hinders the casual passerby from asking a quick question on the game.

As it stands we will do our best to be sure that 'fake' usernames are not being used in the same manner as an anonymous poster.

Just my thoughts on the subject.
