Greetings:
The subject of racism has recently been forefront in the news lately.
A lot of people are talking about it.
A lot of people are accusing each other of it.
Even a former United States President, Jimmy Carter, is talking about it and accusing others of it.
Before we accuse each other of racism, or making racist statements, I believe we should define our terms.
How do you define racism?
In your opinion, what is, and what is not, a racist statement?
If you have any opinions on this subject, please feel free to post them here.
Please refrain from personal attacks while doing so.
In my opinion, this topic is better off discussed here, than on any of the other ACF Forums which are intended for the discussion of Checkers.
Very Sincerely,
Dennis Cayton

Re: What Is Racism?
Hello Everyone:
To my way of thinking all of us need to treat each other equally and with respect. Checker/Draughts players come from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe. I have made many friends thru Checkers . I am far from perfect but do my best to look at everyone the same. I have my own views on many topics I read on the forum. I know one thing --- All of us need to promote the game in any way we can. Name calling, etc. is not the way to accomplish that.
It all goes back to following the British Navy's rules at the dinner table that Mr. Niederhoffer advocates . I am asking everyone involved to quit all mean spirited postings and get back to job # 1 ----- The promotion of our game and to do our best to leave no one behind .
Sincerely:

Re: What Is Racism?
Racism is when through action or inaction i cause somebody from a certain race prejudice or discomfort.
Racism is usually based on the belief that my race is better or superior to somebody else's and therefore i am entitled to discriminate them.
Irma what you are talking about is "sexism" which is discrimination and/or prejudice based on gender.
I think that it is hard in a world full of hate not to encounter racism today.
