Betty Ford (1918-2011)
My condolences to the family of Betty Ford (1918-2011) former First Lady (1974-77) and founder of the Betty Ford Center for chemical dependency recovery. She was thrust into international prominence when President Nixon resigned and her husband Jerry Ford became President of the United States. She handled "life in a fishbowl" with dignity and grace, with a refreshing candor that won the hearts of millions, and was an inspiration to millions. --George Hay
