I am better than xeno I don't care what anyone says haha. Alex Moiseyev currently rips me apart in both gayp and 3-move. He lost early in our games because he was figuring out what I was weak on haha.

I have not challenged anyone big because I am not a fast game player. I challenged Q to a 1-1 timed setting about 8 months ago and got demolished 10-0-1 in 3 move, no joke. A slower timer where I can at least think and its a different story. He would still beat me, but the score would have been closer. I have a lot of respect for the skill level of the top internet players, and I don't claim to be better, but a slow timer where thinking is involved makes a difference. Eric is one of the top that plays me slower games and we break about even, so I suppose to be around that level. None of this needs to be said, but when some punk named Foster claims that I win the Pa state and still suck, hey, just sticking up for myself.

John, I finished badly cause I lost to one guy in my first round and I can name about 5 different legitimate excuses the main one being I had not played on a REAL board in over a year and it was making me see things wrong... all excuses have nothing to do with the players skill level... who I beat repeatedly the next day completely wasted drunk from gambling all night after I got used to a real board. If u see on the list I'm not even top 10

Hey Joe,
I don't know who "Foster" is, and I certainly don't know if he is a punk,...but, I was there when you won the PA. State Title, and I watched as many of your games being played as I could, games you played against some world class competition..........
It was a privilege, you never seemed to be worried, never seemed to sweat,...just played and won.
So, I'll stick up for you also......!!!

Playing fast games have it's positives and negatives. One of the biggest negative things is - all this casual play simplify things and make it easy, weakening "feeling bareer". In other words, things are taken too easy which has negative influence on playing ability.

Thats why personally I am a bit cautious and never overplay online games.

Online games help me sometimes to wakeup and refresh things, usually 2-3 nights is enough for refreshment ... but not 6-8 hours every day for many years.

It is really pity that most (not all) o all these kids and young adults never show up at real checkers events. They make themselves miserable and missing alot of stuff and joy.

I wish them good luck in all their initiatives and still hope to see some of them eventually.

This year Fredo, Chee, Eric and Nick will attend National - they promised me personally and never took their word back. Maybe next year more online players will be will attend 3-moves National.

I never separate my online and real checkers activities. They all are part of my soul as well, as 10x10 composition today and 10x10 & Russian checkers competition - back to Soviet Union.

Like someone said in a post awhile back, the problem is it is the Internet era. People can enjoy checkers from the comfort of their homes and dont have to pay a dime. Not to mention kurnik is a great site for checkers and things like ratings, records, prog detectors, etc. keep players attracted. People are really into Internet checkers and have goals they actually want to accomplish. Not a bad thing at all, but Internet checkers is like a good comfort zone for many of them. And regarding the slow games, some people I think don't have the patience to play them and know that is what they will have to play in live tournaments. Yea, there is a blitz tourney, but I think players look at it like it is just the warm up little tourney compared to the big one that last much longer and will have way more players. If ACF wants to attract those players, they may need to put a bigger emphasis on blitz and their support of it somehow.

We simply rated the performance of players who competed in Kurnik.

I didn't know that we count games at 3 AM as rated games. When I am playing usually it collects about 20-30 players in the room with good dozen of idiots. Any game I lose generates a storm of messages like "we have new world champ?", "Alex - provie" ... etc haha

And indeed it would be a bit ambitious to call a modern time as Internet era. It depends only on personality. Using Internet is only your choice ... like smoking, drinking alcohol or using drags. Same idea and same effect - psychological degradation and losing connection with real life.

Checkers like girls ... you can play online but have very little or no idea what REAL checkers look like. It is the same as smell rose in mask !

I'd also like to point at that Clayton Nash is an ONLINE player who now plays in live tournaments and does quite well. So we got Me, Josh, Nick, Clayton, Joe Moore (now), Gilberto Cisneros who has attended 2 national events in past few years and I am sure quite a few more that I can't think of.

Now lets focus on how many offline players have moved to playing online??? A WHOLE LOT OF THEM.... So sure... don't focus on online players because we obviously don't matter according to you John

Pretty sure more older players passed away or quit attending. I played my first online game in an irc chat room with Don Lafferty. It had only been up and running a short time, so I am pretty sure I was among the very first online players.

What I see now is very dissappointing to me. I expected some very good things to happen for checkers, especially when the little village appeared and we had a gui to use.

Now, I see young people with all the tools and books and good players at there fingertips ( I remember driving 60 miles to play at best a major player and then only maybe 4 to 6 games max). I remember the only book in my home town (3 libraries) being "american checker player handbook." Tuff to learn much from that one. Only book at the bookstore was 7th rump in Chicago. Again, not much help there.

My point is..... we older players struggled and sacrificed to find a game or book ect and try to improve. Now the younger generation can play thousands of quality games. Analyze correctly with help of programs and play the "World Champ" online.

What is their response.......?? For the most part, Disrespect !! It's fine to Disrespect a Mullett such as myself, but when I see the "CHAMP" disrepected, and then I am told that the spoiled young person who did the disrespecting is the future of Checkers, I can only say. My,oh My, I wish I had stayed with Chess.

I must say a little more then I will lurk again.

When you disrespect the games older players, regardless of their level of play, you disrespect the heritage of the game and lesson the games esteem.

I am occassionally asked to help get some masters to play at Kurnick.

They do visit occassionally but not under a name you would know.

I asked one of the top masters in the USA if he played online. His answer, once in a while but anonamously. He said, he got tired of the "smart alecks"

I know of some who play under unknown names with other masters with unknown names so as to not draw a big crowd of smart mouth's telling them both how much their play sucks and wanting to show them how good they are. It gets old. I rarely play anyone anymore unless I have met them live at a tournament.

I use to take delight in playing the young folks. Played lots and lots of games with Clayton and Clint and others and showed all I could to help. Now, it just gets old.
