"The 1948 National Checker Tournament"--answer
Checker Trivia questions of the Day"? How many checker players attended this fine tournament in Brownwood, Texas"? And secondly who won it and at what age was he? Mr. Checkers

107 registered and 101 played-tinsley at 21-the two oldest were 73 and 77

This fine tournament was won by Marion Tinsley at the age of 21. Our records show that 205 were in attendance. "Mr. Checkers"

from elams checker board sept. 1948-107 registered and 101 played- i dont recall any tourney that ever had 200 players

Steve, I was thinking one thing and typing another (such is life), so your figure is closer to being accurate than mine is. What I meant to say was how many were in attendance at this fine tournament--and the 205 would have been the closer answer because a lot of the players brought there families and there was a huge barbecue the first night of the tournament, which drew a lot of people to it.
