"Civil War Pocket Checker Set"-answer

Each major war has given us various types of checker sets (most of these we will discuss later) that were given out to the soldiers. They were compact and small so that they could easily be carried in a soldiers pocket. "Checker Trivia of the day". Describe as best you can this old small pocket Civil War checker set. How does it different from modern checker sets as we know them? (Cont.)

The Civil War travel checker set was made up with a small folding board that would easily fit into a shirt pocket. The board itself showed the light and dark squares, but at the bottom of each dark square there was a "slit" into which you would place a small piece of flat celluloid with a picture of the checker on it. This small flat celluloid piece was tappered at the bottom to fit into the "slit". When the game was over there were "slits" on each side of the board to store the checkers. You just folded it back up--put it back in your shirt pocket. Today these old Civil War checker sets are priceless. (Cont.)
