"Ivorine or Ivory Checker Sets"?--answer
Some of the most expensive and beautiful checker sets here in our museum are made out of "Ivory". On Ebay you can buy ivory checker sets almost any day of the week, only to find that when you receive them that they are ivorine. Many sellers don't know the difference therefore they advertise what they feel are ivory checker sets when in reality they are not. "Checker Trivia question of the Day". How does one tell the difference between the real "Ivory" checkers from the ivorine checkers? (Cont.)

"Ivorine or Ivory Checker Sets"--answer
Ivorine checkers are generally made out of bakelite or some other kind of composition material to make them appear to be ivory checkers. Unless one knows how to tell the difference then you may easily be buying ivorine checkers. Ivory checkers have the characteristic parallel lines throughout and there are hundreds of these--some being finer than other, some being wavy etc. You should be able to see these upon close examination. These lines will not be seen in the ivorine checkers. (Cont.)
