Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Re: "From George Washington to George Bush"
I will take a guess here and say it was Richard M. Nixon.

Re: "From George Washington to George Bush"
Abe Lincoln and Harry Truman are the closest answers to this fine question so far.
Read the original question; plus the follow up statement carefully and you may even come closer yet. "Mr. Checkers
And I personally visited his home a few times over the past 30 years. "Mr. Checkers"
My last guess will be the 18th President, Ulysses S. Grant who served during the years 1869 - 1877.
President Grant represented the State of Illinois as did President Abraham Lincoln, and President Harry S Truman represented the State of Missouri which is not far away.
I'm guessing that you have visited his home in Galena, Illinois.
On August 18, 1865, Galena, celebrated the return of its Civil War hero General Ulysses S. Grant. Following a jubilant procession with much flag waving and speeches, a group of Galena citizens presented the General with a handsome furnished house on Bouthillier Street.

The house is managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as the U.S. Grant Home State Historic Site
