Question Time, Which Park?

Time to start some quiz questions about Checkers.

Let's start with an easy one.

In which park did the old men play chekers by the tree?

a clue:

think about what was left there in the rain.

MacArthur Park by Jimmy Webb, as sung by Richard Harris in the 1968 hit record. The cake being left out in the rain is a deep metaphor for something, perhaps a checker "cook" that went terribly wrong?

Could it be that the players were "Singing in the Rain" or that they tried to "Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the Old Oak Tree" ?
My guess is that they were playing in Central Park.

George is right, it is the mysterious "MacArthur Park" made famous by the Grand Wizard Richard Harris.

His analysis of the "cake" metaphor is brilliant, but may I suggest a slight improvement?

In contrast to George I believe that the cook was brilliant and did not went terribly wrong.
In fact, he left the parchment of paper with the cook i the rain.
He dedicated it to a woman that did not seem to really understand its inherent, heart-felt value with it in the rain, and now he is understandably in a deep state of shock, as he will never find that recipe again, though it took so long to find it.... a brilliant piece of lyrics showing how desperate a checker player can be in a situation that only checker players do really understand as they went through it time and time again, but most of them are clever enough never to leave the notes in the rain
