Prof. William R. Fraser obituary

Interesting that he published a novel entitled "A White Stone" in 1955, and corresponded extensively with Bertrand Russell, whom he mentions in "The Inferno of Checkers."

Very little other information is available online about him.

Dr. Kaiser,
We old checker players are often slow to express appreciation for historical checker information. It makes good reading and awakens good memories. Please keep it up.

Some years ago I managed to obtain the book. Incidentally, his wife, who is mentioned in ID&C, lived to be around 103! (Her obit is online somewhere.)

Inferno of Checkers is an engaging book, despite some serious editing problems. For example, sometimes several pages of prose by Willie Ryan are inserted, and the transitions aren't always clear.

I only wish more of Fraser's draughts writings were available. Strange that the obituary didn't mention a wife! If he had kids, it would be interesting to see if they kept any of his memorabilia.

I might order "A White Stone" and read it, just out of curiosity.
